From our wonderful Garden Educator - Ms. Hannah.
Dear Redwood Heights Community,
I want to thank all of you so much for welcoming me into this beautiful, thriving school community this year. The 2018-2019 school year at Redwood Heights has been an incredible time for all of us to learn, grow, and create together. It’s been an honor to learn alongside your children in the art studio and garden, and guide them as they develop their creative practices, their technical and socio-emotional skills, and their knowledge of themselves, each other, and our world.
I am writing you all today to share an update about my own journey and our amazing art and garden programs. First, the good news: I am pleased to announce that I will be attending UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education starting next month. There, I will study with an amazing team of educators and scholars in the Berkeley Educators for Equity and Excellence program as I work towards my MA in Teaching and CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. This year at Redwood Heights has given me the confidence to pursue my career as a classroom teacher, and I am so grateful to Cynthia and all of the amazing teachers at this school for their mentorship and guidance.
You can probably infer the less-good news — that I will not be returning next year. I am truly going to miss this school and the inspiring students, staff, and families that make RHS such a wonderful place.
I am so glad that my amazing collaborator Chelsea Royalty will be staying on next year and taking on the Artist-in-Residence position full time. Our wonderful art studio is in extremely capable hands, and I can’t wait to see how the art program continues to evolve under her direction. I am so excited for the artists I’ve worked with this year to get to know the magical Mrs. Royalty!
Our Garden Committee is searching for a new Garden Instructor — so if you are interested or know someone who would be, please reach out to Chelsea through Konstella.
I am definitely planning on visiting Redwood Heights next year as a guest artist or volunteer, so this is certainly not goodbye! And I am very excited about the possibility of returning as a classroom teacher sometime in the future.
Thank you all so much for your support — of the art and garden programs at Redwood Heights, of your amazing children, and of me! Here’s to another year of learning, collaboration, and creativity. Have a beautiful summer, and keep in touch! You can always reach me at my personal email — hannah.madeleine.klein@gmail.
With love and gratitude,
