Dear Redwood Heights Community,
OUSD and OEA were unable to agree on a contract during their negotiations this weekend, and we just received word that the OEA will begin an Unfair Labor Practice strike starting this Thursday, May 4. Although there is a possibility that the two sides will reach an agreement in the next 48 hours, it's best to assume this strike will happen. Although school will technically still be open, you may choose not to go to show solidarity with our teachers.
There are ways you can help!
- Help us spread the word about the strike so we can reach folks who don’t check Konstella regularly. We’ll try to print a flier for distribution as well.
- If you have ideas from the 2019 strike, or if you’d like to volunteer to help us in our efforts to support our community during this time, we’d love to hear from you! Email admin@redwoodheightspta.org.
- There is a petition circulating to request the City of Oakland to make libraries and city-run recreation centers open to OUSD students for the duration of the strike that you can sign here.
Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation as we work together to navigate this situation. We will keep you posted as best we can. Please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns to admin@redwoodheightspta.org, and we will do our best to address them.
In community,
Tiffany & Anna
