Developing Effective Communication, Empathy Building & Listening Skills Using Restorative Conversations
Effective communication skills are important to master when bringing together people from different racial, cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic and religious groups into a single school community. Effective communication skills open opportunities for deep understanding of other people's perspective that helps dissolve misunderstandings and stereotypes that can lead to harm and conflict. This workshop is designed to teach a fundamental conflict resolution and processing skill called a Restorative Conversation. Participants will learn all of the communication skills needed to engage in simple and meaningful conversations with people who may need support, have different views than you about a topic, have different needs or experiences than yours, or need some guidance on how to move beyond a challenging situation. This is also a great skill that parents can use with their children to develop social-emotional skills. CircleUp Education's trainers will also draw attention to links that show how this practice is used within the Restorative Justice framework in schools.
