We are pleased to announce that our very own Stephanie Taymuree has been awarded OUSD Teacher of the Year!
Our beloved Ms. Taymuree has spent her 37-year career at OUSD teaching students with severe and moderate disabilities. She is the 3rd-5th grade teacher in our TACLE (Technology & Augmentative Communication for Learning Enhancement) classroom. Ms. Taymuree’s passion for equity and access, her high expectations and her respect for her students, her devotion to education, and her energy, are unwavering. She is often the last teacher at school in the evenings, working diligently, tirelessly, and with endless enthusiasm, positivity, and professionalism to ensure that her students get the best education possible each and every day. Tears stream from all the teachers eyes’ (and doubtless many parents’ eyes as well) when her students, after receiving the gifts of knowledge, skill, and empowerment from several years in Ms. Taymuree’s classroom, walk the stage during our 5th grade promotion and proudly and confidently give their speeches using their own voices or their augmentative communication tools, clearly ready for middle school and beyond.
In addition to being an amazing teacher, she demonstrates exceptional leadership skills. The teachers at RHS are lucky to have her as a resource, a collaborative thought partner, and a moral compass. In addition to being a consistent source of knowledge and inspiration at Redwood Heights and in OUSD, she also travels around the world to share her expertise and to keep learning.
Please read the following letter from Ms. Taymuree:
Dear Parents and Community,
I am excited, honored and humbled to announce that I have been chosen as one of OUSD's Teachers of the Year.
I share this wonderful honor with my TACLE co-teachers, Michele Boruta and Maureen Gilhooly, and our extraordinary classroom staff which include Esther Alabi, Jessica Lancaster, Neary Neou, Laura Stritzel and Mojisola Tahir. The integrity of our program would not be possible without the dedication and support of our staff and administration. I would also like to express gratitude to you, our parents and families, for trusting us with the education and care of your precious children.
