Hello RHS Families,
I hope that all of you are holding up well during this most unusual of school years.
One of the qualities of RHS that I cherish the most is the strong sense of community amongst the families. We’re lucky to have so many parents who are so deeply involved in enriching the school. I think it’s especially important to keep that sense of connection and community going during these difficult times while the kids aren’t physically at the school.
In an attempt to keep traditions going, I’d like to announce the first meeting of the Redwood Heights Dads Club on Tuesday, Sept. 1st. at 7:00pm.
The first meeting is always important as it’s a great way to meet new parents as well as reconnect with familiar faces. We’re hoping to cover the following topics:
• Review of Dad's Club purpose/goals
• Review the calendar for the year
• Review the budget
• Discuss options for our goals of community building and fundraising
• Brainstorm ideas for new events for the year, this is really important. How to build community during Covid.

For those of you who are new to the school here is a little background on the Dads Club:
The club was founded in 1948 and has a long history of rich contributions to the school. The Dads' Club gives dads and other members of the community a chance to connect with the school in three ways:
Learn about what's going on at school through discussions at the monthly meetings
Meet other parents in a relaxed atmosphere either at meetings or working on events and projects
Make a positive, physical contribution to the school through community events, fundraising, and workdays
Open to all interested parents and community members (not just dads!), the Dads Club sponsors many of the school's annual events including the Fall Carnival, the Variety Show, Spaghetti Feeds, the Annual Golf Tournament and more. We also partner with the PTA to support the Auction and Walkathon fundraisers. Funds raised by the Dads Club benefit the Art Program, Music program, classroom field trips, technology and facilities improvements, and welfare needs.
In addition to community events and fundraising, the Dads Club tackles many projects around RHS to improve our children's learning environment. Many of the structures around the school and in the classrooms (e.g., cubbies, bookcases, planter boxes, and wall hangings) were built and are maintained by the Dads Club.
Membership is very casual. If you want to see what we're up to, just drop in on our monthly planning meeting (usually the first Tuesday evening of the month). You can also join our e-mail list to receive announcements about club activities.
I hope that you can make the meeting. It will be a great opportunity to check in on parents that you may not be seeing regularly and also a chance to welcome and connect with incoming families.
