Crossing Guard Update

Our crossing guard Annie should be back this week!  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered while she was out, and to those who brought together members of BRSSD, Redwood City Police and Transportation Departments to address concerns at our location. As such, the crossing guard's position was re-established where we need help most, and the city is looking to replace the in-ground lights that aren't working with a more effective above-ground system. We are also working with a neighboring homeowner association to relocate trees obstructing visability at the school intersection.

We want all families to stay safe on your route to and from campus. Please remember our safe routes to school and follow proper drop-off procedures (do not drop off in the parking lot unless you find a non-reserved parking space).

PTA Announcements

Lunchtime Parent Volunteers
Calling all parents who are able to come to campus 12:05pm-1:05pm any day except Wednesday to supervise children during lunch and lunch recess. There are two different roles, one is the Black Top and Lawn Supervisor and the other is Lunch Tables/Green Team Supervisor.  You will work closely with Principal Cahoon to ensure safety of the kids as well as help them be more green.  We only have Principal Cahoon supervising the children on Tuesdays.  If you are able to spare an hour, please go to Konstella and sign up for a particular date/role.

SchoolForce Reading Power
Dive Into Reading January 12th to 26th!  Look out for a Konstella sign up sheet with volunteer opportunities to help make this a smashing success!   Also, don't forget to check with your employer for company matching programs ahead of time to multiply the effects of your generosity!

Robotics Club
Calling all parents who may be able to lead Robotics!  As 4th and 5th grade parents know, there is a long wait list for the Robotics Club.  We would support additional teams if we can get someone to lead it.  We have a room available either Mondays or Fridays between 3:15pm-8pm.  If interested, please contact Sandy.  The kids on the waitlist will have priority if we open another session.

Enrichment Club
We currently have space available for clubs.  One that might be easier to lead is a Math Olympiad for lower grades.  You can use the format of the current club for 4th and 5th graders.  If you are interested in starting a club, contact Sandy.

Community Announcement

Toy Drive to Benefit Samaritan House -- Last Call!
Redwood Shores Elementary School is participating in a TOY DRIVE to benefit the families and children served by the SAMARITAN HOUSE in San Mateo County. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy or game for children in need and making their holidays a little more joyful. Bring your donation to the school office and place it in one of the large, blue collection barrels. You can print individual gift tags from their website to specify a girl or boy gift. The Samaritan House will pick up the toy bins on December 12th. Thanks for helping our community!

One Warm Coat Drive
Your 4th Grade Girl Scout troop is partnering with One Warm Coat to collect new and/or gently used coats for their service project.  As the temperature drops and it starts to get cold, several families in the Bay Area are not able to afford warm jackets and coats.  Please bring your coats and jackets for men, women, and children to the school office and place into the coat drive box by December 20th. Thank you for your support.  Email Monica Brillantes with questions.
