Whole Child Wellness Week 2018 | "Students For Others"
It’s simple: a person can take care of themselves by taking care of others. Helping a friend nearby or giving assistance to those in need far away are just two ways anyone can be satisfied knowing a positive impact has been made.
This year RWSE leverages Whole Child Wellness Week with the district’s focus on fostering responsible global citizenship by encouraging activities to appreciate diversity in our community, and exploring connections outside of the classroom.
Monday, October 15th | BUDDY UP FOR HEALTH - Parent volunteer Anna Slavitt leads a morning exercise that requires two people. Get ready to share talents. CANNED FOOD DRIVE for LifeMoves -- Bring in a canned food for families in need. Teachers will collect cans in the morning and a receptacle will be available in the front office to accept donations throughout the week.
Tuesday, October 16 | SHOW YOUR BUDDY SOME APPRECIATION - Write or draw a thanks card to their buddy expressing what their friendship means.
Wednesday, October 17 | MANY SCHOOL COLORS, ONE SCHOOL - Show unity in school pride by wearing spirit wear or school colors! WALK-N-ROLL WEDNESDAY - Ask a friend or a group of students to join while heading off to school on foot, bike or scooter.
Thursday, October 18 | SHARE THOUGHTS AND PERSPECTIVES - For Grades TK to 3, bring a book to share in class. For Grades 4 and 5, do a book report of their selection. These ideas will be gathered in a folder to be left in the library for fellow students to use as a reference for recommendations.
Friday, October 19 | TASTE AND SEE - Give others a proverbial taste of your household – bring in a typical healthy snack from your home. Snack will not be shared, but students will be given a chance to talk about it in the classroom.
Dine Out & Give Back Night on October 22nd
Join us for Give Back Night at Mendocino Farms Sandwich Market in San Mateo on Monday, October 22nd from 5-8pm to support RWSE. The restaurant will give back 20% of the proceeds to support our PTA! Print out and present this flyer to the cashier. See you there!
It’s time to turn in the Box Tops you’ve been collecting all summer. We'll be rolling out a contest to see which classroom can bring in the most Box Tops.
Each Box Top is worth 10¢ for our school. Look for the Box Tops on products, check the expiration dates, clip them along the perforated lines and send them to school with your children. There's a collection bag in all the classrooms. Click here for a list of participating products. The contest ends on Halloween (October 31).
Annual Halloween Parade
On Wednesday, October 31st, RWSE is having its annual Halloween Parade. The parade will start at approximately 8:50am. Classes will parade around the school using the same route as the Walk-a-Thon. Please review details about costumes, parade attendance, healthy treats, and very limited parking!
