PTA President's Message
Whew, hope everyone is still kicking after last week! After the Water Dog Run last Saturday, SchoolForce’s Save the Music Festival on Sunday (hope you all had a great time!), we started with a celebration of the winners in participation for the Walk-a-Thon. Thanks again to the chairs who are still working on collecting and reconciling donations, giving out prizes and donating even more of their time for some of these prizes.
We also had a very positive week of Whole Child Wellness thanks to Dennis Manalo for the great theme of “Students for Others” to align to our district’s focus on fostering responsible global citizenship and to Anna Slavit for all the prep work required to get it done as well as leading the morning buddy exercise on Monday. We hope the kids came home excited about how good it feels to help others.
The Kinder, 2nd and 4th grade students participated in separate presentations from the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition. Thank you so much Jennifer Hom for bringing informative assemblies such as this, author assemblies, and so much more to our kids for the entire year! Also thank you Shannon Moon for your work with the Safe Routes to School program to partner with Jennifer on the presentations above as well as bringing us the Kid Power Workshop For Parents among many other things to keep our kids safe. We appreciate all the work you both do behind the scenes!
We also kicked off new spirit wear sales. Have you seen the new gear and accessories on Konstella? They are awesome! Thank you Christine Wong for the cool new design, Martha Tse for researching what parents want and price points for the gear, and Jen Vitug for overseeing spirit wear, working with the vendors, selling off old inventory, and starting a new sales process for our school.
Finally, I hope everyone had a chance to go to the BRSSD School Board Candidate forum as well as our PTA Meeting. I think this week is a winner for the number of activities. Of course none of this could be done without your support of time and money, so thank you so much to all volunteers and donors to PTA & SchoolForce.
We click it down a notch this week with one activity this week on Monday night: the Mendocino Farms Give Back event! Thanks to Sonia Quesada for bringing this to us. If you’re like me always at a loss as to what to serve for dinner and in a rush, come to Mendocino Farms (in the Whole Foods Shopping Center off Hillsdale) on Monday, October 22nd, from 5-8pm! Don’t forget the flyer (physical or on a mobile device). Mendocino Farms will donate 20% of all proceeds to RSES! Easy solution for dinner while giving back to the school, that’s a pretty good deal! If this is something you’d like to see more of, let me know! This is the first of this type of event RSES has ever done, so let’s make it a resounding success!
Of course our next activities are never far off. The Halloween Parade will be on the 31st as well as numerous classroom parties. Followed not too far behind by the Multicultural Event on November 9th. Please come join us! It’s a fabulous event that features so many different ethnicities and cultures. If you’d like to represent your culture on that stage or in food, contact Sucharita Puli or Alicia Westra.
Hope to see you around! Go Seals!

Dine Out & Give Back Night on October 22nd
Join us for Give Back Night at Mendocino Farms Sandwich Market in San Mateo on Monday, October 22nd from 5-8pm to support RSES. The restaurant will give back 20% of the proceeds to support our PTA! Print out and present this flyer to the cashier. See you there!
It’s time to turn in the Box Tops you’ve been collecting all summer. Which classroom will bring in the most Box Tops?! Each Box Top is worth 10¢ for our school. Look for the Box Tops on products, check the expiration dates, clip them along the perforated lines and send them to school with your children. There's a collection bag in all classrooms. Click here for a list of participating products. The contest ends on Halloween (October 31).
2018-2019 Spirit Wear!
New Spirit Wear Gear and Apparel is now available here and we will be taking pre-sale orders for one more week. (Please note that the interface on the phone app vs. web browser is very different. The web browser will allow you to enlarge the product photos and view the product spec sheet - the phone app will not allow you to do this.) A HUGE THANK YOU to Christine Wong for her graphic design expertise with the school's new logo! Go Seals! Thank you all for your continued support! ~Spirit Wear Committee

Annual Halloween Parade
On Wednesday, October 31st, RWSE is having its annual Halloween Parade. The parade will start at approximately 8:50am. Classes will parade around the school using the same route as the Walk-a-Thon. Please review details about costumes, parade attendance, healthy treats, and very limited parking!
Halloween Candy Buy-Back
Sponsored by the dental & orthodontic offices of Drs. Urmi Amin, Michael Chang & Nancy Kaher, students bring excess wrapped candy to school the week after Halloween. For each pound of wrapped candy we collect, the dentists will donate $1 to SchoolForce, up to $3,500! We take the candy to their office in San Carlos and then it is shipped off to US troops overseas as part of Operation Gratitude.
