School Smarts Parent Engagement on Tuesday, October 24th
We are excited to announce the launch of the Redwood Shores California PTA School Smarts Program for parents on Tuesday, October 24th at 6:30-7:15pm in the Multi-Use Room.  The program’s operating principle is inclusion, and they will work with us and two teacher leaders, Mrs. Dos Remedios and Mr. Tashman, to reach across all parent groups and bring them together in support of their common interest to help children succeed.  The program involves a series of parent education and leadership development sessions from November to January on the following topics:

  • Navigating the public school system
  • How parents can help their children succeed in school
  • Develop parent volunteer and leadership capacity
  • Encourage parents to become advocates for a complete education that includes the arts

Executive Function Workshop Sponsored by Opening Doors PTA
Thursday, December 7, 2017 @ 10am-12pm
330 Twin Dolphin Drive | Belmont, CA 94002
The concept of Executive Function (EF) is ever evolving in today’s schools and in the community. This talk will explain what EF is and its various components. The talk will also shed light on why EF difficulties have a major impact in today’s classrooms and how it impacts learning. Luckily, there is emerging evidence that children can be taught to be more strategic as they utilize strategies that are taught to them. We will discover how to best support students in developing metacognitive awareness as well as specific EF strategies in order to promote student success in the classroom and in life.  Discussion Points:

  • What is Executive Function (EF)?
  • Why do EF difficulties have a major impact in today's classrooms and how does it impact learning?
  • How do we support students in developing metacognitive awareness?
  • What are specific EF strategies, and how do we teach them to students?
