Principal’s Message
Please review this week's message from Principal Amsler with reflections on our past, present and future objectives and sprinkling kindness.

President's Message
Dear Parents,
Wow, the final few days of school are upon us! I can’t believe how quickly this year has passed. Discovery Day was amazing with numerous enriching activities from which the students could choose. I saw so many happy faces and so much concentration doing each activity it really made my day. Thank you so much to Keli Mayfield and Jill Brier all the hours put into planning and executing this fun educational day for our students! Thank you also to all who volunteered to provide your skills and expertise to help this day be a tremendous success!
Throughout the school year, many of us have used the services of our Valets. It sure makes drop off super easy, and I just love hearing “Have a good day!” from our Valets. Thank you 5th graders and 4th graders who stepped in to help while the 5th graders were out. We couldn’t have gotten this group of helpful students together without the help of Monica Brillantes and Cyanna Chung. Thank you for making drop off so much easier. Also thank you to every valet parent helper who takes a day a week to help the valets. Karen Melzer, Novena Kwok, Tanya Hamanaka, and Kevin Hamanaka, we appreciate you so much!
As I’ve been saying throughout this calendar year, it’s never too early to think about the following year, particularly for parents in the younger grades who will be around for a while longer. The role on the team I would like to highlight on the PTA Board in this issue is
Secretary. Our secretary this year was Laura Tan. Laura stepped in last year when our original secretary decided she couldn’t fill this role, so I very much appreciate the hole she plugged with such enthusiasm. The job of the secretary is to take accurate notes during our Executive Board Meetings and our General Association Meetings. These notes document everything that is discussed, so if there’s ever any need to go back and reference or provide evidence that something was done, we go back to these minutes. The secretary also has the responsibility of signing reimbursement forms to signify that all the expenses that we pay is authorized. Thank you Laura for all your diligent help these past two years!
We have less than a month before we need to order supplies for the beginning of the school year. The requested donation is $50. Thank you to those who have donated already! We would love for all students to have the basic necessities e.g. pencils, glue sticks, notebooks, etc. from the get go, so we need your help. To donate please go to Konstella or if you’d like to pay by cash or check made out to Redwood Shores Elementary School, hand it into Nicky in the office. The office will be open through the end of June. Thank you so much for your support! Here is our progress to date.  We're almost halfway there.
Go Seals!

SchoolForce Message: 3 Weeks Left!
Thank you to those who donated during the first week in June - donations for the week totaled $100K! This means we now have 3 weeks to raise $300,000 to meet our funding obligations to the district for the 2019-20 school year.

– $300K IN 3 WEEKS! –

We know this fundraising goal is is ambitious, but just $93 dollars in donations per student would allow us to achieve this goal, and fund the vital staff and programs your students deserve!
And we CAN do it! Each year, many BRSSD families donate in the month before the June 30th deadline. In 2018, more than 10% of donations for the year were made during the month of June.

In the coming year, SchoolForce will fundmore critical staff and resources than ever before, including expanded counseling staff* for all grades, teacher professional development, and Chromebooks for grades K-2.
If you have not yet donated this year, please donate what you can now. If you have already donated, we thank you, and ask that you make an additional donation that works for your family.

Multicultural Night

As this school year ends, we also start looking ahead into what next year brings. One event that happens early in the school year is Multicultural Night. This event aims to help us embrace diversity and strengthen our sense of community in Redwood Shores Elementary School.
Save the date: Multicultural Night 2019 will be November 15th at 6:30pm!
Calling all RSES students who love to sing, dance, play instruments, create a skit, recite poetry or tell a story about your cultural heritage -- WE NEED YOU!  We will also need parent volunteers/leads who can organize and coach a group of students with their performance.  We are hoping to see more cultural groups participate in the coming year, so please think about this over the summer and help make a memorable multicultural celebration in November!
More information will be announced when the new school year starts. If you have ideas or questions, please reach out to Cathy Sarmiento or Zel Ronquillo.

Enrichment Clubs at RSES
This was such a great year for Enrichment Clubs at Redwood Shores Elementary. Kids enjoyed Newspaper club, Robotics club, Math Olympiad club, Crazy8 Math club, and Running club. These clubs were led by parent volunteers just like you. Now that the school year is coming to an end, we turn our attention to planning for next year's clubs. This is where you come in!  If you have an idea for a club or have the time to volunteer as a parent helper or take on leading a club, we would love to hear from you. Please email PTA Enrichment Chair (Ora Grinberg).
Each club needs at least two co-leads to start and many could use additional parent helpers to be able to open registration for more students. One benefit of leading an after-school club is you can make it your own and can schedule it at at a time convenient to you, and of course your child(ren) are guaranteed a spot at any club led by you or in which you are a committed parent helper.
For next year, we need some new leaders to volunteer for existing clubs (Robotics, Math Olympiad, Crazy8 Math, Newspaper and Running) as well as new clubs such as Gardening, Math Junior, Mandarin, Yoga, Book Club, and others. Enrichment clubs WILL NOT happen without your help. Many of the clubs we hope to offer only have one co-lead or no one so far, so please reach out if you are interested in leading those or have an idea for and interest in leading another club.
*Note: Narkees is transferring from Newspaper to help Mel with Gardening club, which still needs at least one more parent volunteer.  If you're interested in helping with either club or a new idea, please contact Ora for details. Thanks for considering!*

Do One Thing
As this school year closes, many of us are planning ahead for next year, and we want to include all families in our mission to "Do One Thing" for our school community.  All staff members and families are so fortunate to work together on the many aspects of providing a great environment for our students to learn.  Did you know we have over 40 'committees' that each need a team of volunteers who give their time and expertise for our students? And there are even more opportunities to volunteer.  We look forward to building our community together!
