SchoolForce Message: 3 Weeks Left!
Thank you to those who donated during the first week in June - donations for the week totaled $100K! This means we now have 3 weeks to raise $300,000 to meet our funding obligations to the district for the 2019-20 school year.
– $300K IN 3 WEEKS! –
We know this fundraising goal is is ambitious, but just $93 dollars in donations per student would allow us to achieve this goal, and fund the vital staff and programs your students deserve!
And we CAN do it! Each year, many BRSSD families donate in the month before the June 30th deadline. In 2018, more than 10% of donations for the year were made during the month of June.
WHY IS THE GOAL HIGHER THIS YEAR?
MORE STAFF & RESOURCES FOR 2019-2020
In the coming year, SchoolForce will fundmore critical staff and resources than ever before, including expanded counseling staff* for all grades, teacher professional development, and Chromebooks for grades K-2.
If you have not yet donated this year, please donate what you can now. If you have already donated, we thank you, and ask that you make an additional donation that works for your family.
As this school year ends, we also start looking ahead into what next year brings. One event that happens early in the school year is Multicultural Night. This event aims to help us embrace diversity and strengthen our sense of community in Redwood Shores Elementary School. Save the date: Multicultural Night 2019 will be November 15th at 6:30pm!
Calling all RSES students who love to sing, dance, play instruments, create a skit, recite poetry or tell a story about your cultural heritage -- WE NEED YOU! We will also need parent volunteers/leads who can organize and coach a group of students with their performance. We are hoping to see more cultural groups participate in the coming year, so please think about this over the summer and help make a memorable multicultural celebration in November!
More information will be announced when the new school year starts. If you have ideas or questions, please reach out to Cathy Sarmiento or Zel Ronquillo.
Enrichment Clubs at RSES
This was such a great year for Enrichment Clubs at Redwood Shores Elementary. Kids enjoyed Newspaper club, Robotics club, Math Olympiad club, Crazy8 Math club, and Running club. These clubs were led by parent volunteers just like you. Now that the school year is coming to an end, we turn our attention to planning for next year's clubs. This is where you come in! If you have an idea for a club or have the time to volunteer as a parent helper or take on leading a club, we would love to hear from you. Please email PTA Enrichment Chair (Ora Grinberg).
Each club needs at least two co-leads to start and many could use additional parent helpers to be able to open registration for more students. One benefit of leading an after-school club is you can make it your own and can schedule it at at a time convenient to you, and of course your child(ren) are guaranteed a spot at any club led by you or in which you are a committed parent helper.
For next year, we need some new leaders to volunteer for existing clubs (Robotics, Math Olympiad, Crazy8 Math, Newspaper and Running) as well as new clubs such as Gardening, Math Junior, Mandarin, Yoga, Book Club, and others. Enrichment clubs WILL NOT happen without your help. Many of the clubs we hope to offer only have one co-lead or no one so far, so please reach out if you are interested in leading those or have an idea for and interest in leading another club.
*Note: Narkees is transferring from Newspaper to help Mel with Gardening club, which still needs at least one more parent volunteer. If you're interested in helping with either club or a new idea, please contact Ora for details. Thanks for considering!*
Do One Thing
As this school year closes, many of us are planning ahead for next year, and we want to include all families in our mission to "Do One Thing" for our school community. All staff members and families are so fortunate to work together on the many aspects of providing a great environment for our students to learn. Did you know we have over 40 'committees' that each need a team of volunteers who give their time and expertise for our students? And there are even more opportunities to volunteer. We look forward to building our community together!
