Please read these school messages, reminders and community announcements.

Principal's Message
California State Testing begins for our 3rd-5th grade students on Monday, May 6th. Due to our morning testing schedule we will NOT have morning announcement meetings on May 6th, 13th, and 20th.
On-time arrival to school and daily attendance is important for all students. This week, I will be going to classrooms and recognizing children who have had perfect attendance for February, March, and April. Although it's important to stay home if sick, I do also want to appreciate the students that have been able to be on-time and present to learn.
Thank you for your support over these last several weeks of school. Even with the sunshine and good weather, it's still serious learning time here at Redwood Shores Elementary. Daily reading practice and a good night's sleep is still highly recommended! Thank you in advance for your collaboration.

PTA Announcements

Aloha! It's Staff Appreciation Week!
It’s that time of year when we show the staff at our amazing school just how much we appreciate them! The theme for this year is “Mahalo for All That You Do!”.
To show our appreciation to our wonderful teachers and staff, we we will shower them with yummy goodies for breakfast and snacks, and we will fill in to supervise recesses so the teachers can take a much needed break. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have volunteer slots available so please consider signing up for a shift or two if you have a few minutes to spare during the day to assist on the blacktop. Click here to sign up. Many thanks to those who have already volunteered for to bring a treat and to cover a recess shift.
Don't forget to participate in all the activities we have planned for the week.
Monday, May 6: bring a flower for your teacher
Tuesday, May 7: say "thank you" or "mahalo" to your teacher
Wednesday, May 8: return "Couldn't Have Picked A Better Teacher" sheet. Ask your room parent or pick-up a blank copy from the front office.
Thursday, May 9: wear your teacher's favorite color
Friday, May 10: do something to help your teacher
Throughout the week students will have the opportunity to write a note on the poster on each teacher’s door so they can share their appreciation for teachers past and present.
Mahalo nui loa for your support!

Looking for 2019-2020 AiA Volunteer Coordinators
The Redwood Shores Elementary Art in Action (AiA) committee needs volunteer coordinators to co-lead this program for the next school year. AiA leads coordinate with the Art in Action organization (in Menlo Park) on subscription licenses and related activities. At school, the AiA co-chairs identify volunteer docents for each classroom, manage the budget and supplies, and organize the annual art show at the school open house.  The role takes a couple hours a month, with a few extra hours needed at the beginning and end of the year. Ideally 2-3 coordinators is recommended to share responsibilities. There will be an opportunity to transition from the current AiA coordinator.

Each year the school's Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms are exposed to a variety of artists, concepts, and mediums through this high-quality visual art curriculum, and parent volunteers are key to its success. If you enjoy interacting with the school community, are good at organizing, or have an interest in art this may be a good opportunity to get involved. Art experience is a plus but not necessary.  If interested, contact Peggy Chiu.
