Art in Action

Art in Action is a visual art curriculum taught by volunteers for kindergarten, 1st, 4th, and 5th grade levels and is funded by School Force. Students learn about art from different cultures around the world and build skills in drawing, painting, and other techniques. Sequential lessons reinforce art concepts while developing critical thinking skills and creativity. The program’s success depends upon classroom parents (docents and assistants) to teach 12 lessons during the year.

No art background is required to volunteer! Step-by-step lesson plans, videos, and training are available to make the process easier. What is important is bringing enthusiasm and curiosity to the classroom to help students grow their awareness and appreciation for visual arts.

Approximate time commitment for docents PER LESSON is 60-75 in the classroom and 30-60 prep time at home depending on the lesson.
