High School Expeditions Celebration of Learning – Thurs, 5/24, 5-7 pm

Celebrations of Learning happen across all Summit Schools in Expedition Courses to celebrate ALL student work in a public way! All families and community members are invited to see students shine in their public demonstrations. 8th-grade students are also encouraged to attend to get a preview of high school expeditions.
Please join us for this meaningful and celebratory event during the day!
Your attendance is so important for the success of this day to acknowledge all that our grizzlies have achieved!

9th&10th Grade Capture the Flag @ Lakewood Park – Fri 6/1, 4-7pm

The Student Council has planned a Capture the Flag Community Group Event for Friday June 1st! The event will be happening right after school from 4:00-7:00pm. We have reserved Lakewood Park for this.

The park is one mile away from school, which is easily walkable (about 25 minutes from school). The address is: Lakewood Park, 834 Lakechime Dr, Sunnyvale, CA 94089

Please feel free to set up carpools, or there should be a group of students walking over together after school!
The purpose of this event is to promote community group bonding and to have fun! Concessions will be sold and most items will be $1 or $2, so consider sending some money with your student.
We hope that you encourage your children to attend so they can support their Community Groups

8th Grade Study Trip – Fri, 6/1

8th Grade Study Trip

Hello 8th Grade Denali Parents,

The 8th-grade mentors have planned an all-new study trip for our students this year, which will take place on Friday, June 1. Please note that this is an extended day trip, and we won’t be back until approximately 9pm.

The students will visit San Francisco State University, explore the San Francisco Zoo, then have a pizza party at Ocean Beach! The trip will be capped off with a bonfire on the beach, then the students will return to Denali.

To make this trip possible, we need parents who can volunteer to drive AND chaperone all day on June 1—here is the schedule:

Date and Time Destination
8:00-8:30 am Meet at Denali, load into cars
8:30-10:00 am Drive to SFSU in carpools
10:00 am – 12:00 pm Tour of SFSU with car groups
12:00-12:30 pm Travel to SF Zoo in carpools
12:30-1:00 pm Lunch at SF Zoo
1:00-4:00 pm SF Zoo Exploration with car groups
4:00-4:45 pm Walk to Ocean Beach
4:45-6:00 pm Pizza party on Ocean Beach
6:00-8:00 pm Bonfire on the Beach
8:00-9:00 pm Depart beach and drive back to Denali

This will be a great trip and a significant commitment for volunteers, so we are recruiting early to give everyone plenty of time to plan! If you would like to participate, please enter your information on this form, and let me know if you have any questions.

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast – Sun, 6/3, 9-11 am


From Mr. Bock and Ms. Bilisoly…

We are incredibly grateful for every member of our Denali community who has volunteered for our school and for our students this year. You have taken time out of your busy work weeks to drive our students on study trips and have given up your Saturday mornings to help make our school more beautiful. You have spent the night with us in the woods, helped us to find gyms and fields for our sports teams, and run student afterschool clubs and activities. No matter how big or small, we are thankful for all of your help this year!

As a small token of our thanks, we want to volunteer for YOU! We are adding a new event to the Denali calendar and are inviting all of our volunteers to an Appreciation Breakfast on Sunday, June 3 from 9-11am. Please join us for pancakes and coffee to say THANK YOU! Some of the many examples of volunteer work at Denali include:

  • Camping trips (drivers, cooks, medical support, overnight help, planners & organizers, etc.)
  • Study trips (drivers, chaperones, planners & organizers, etc.)
  • Denali Parent Organization
  • Mentor Group Liaisons
  • Afterschool clubs & activities
  • Facilities work days
  • School dance chaperones
  • SBAC snacks and materials
  • Spring Carnival (planners & organizers, mentor group booths, etc.)
  • Teacher appreciation week
  • Parent Education series
  • Fundraising
  • Sports (coaches, drivers, team parents, etc.)
  • Denali Theatre volunteers
  • And so much more!

End of Year Celebration – Thurs, 6/7 8:30-11 am

Celebrate Denali will take place from 8:30-11: 45 am. The programming will include selected freshman speeches, an opportunity for our students to show off their work from the year, and time for mentor groups to reflect on the year, share academic work and celebrate each other. Parents are invited to join for all parts! We hope that you are able to help us Celebrate Denali!

8th Grade Promotion – Thurs, 6/7 4-7 PM


8th Grade Promotion Information

Where: Baylands Park – 999 E Caribbean Dr, Sunnyvale, CA
When: Thursday, June 7 from 4:00-7:00 PM
8th Grade Promotion is an opportunity for us to come together as a Denali community to celebrate the hard work of our rising 9th graders. On this special day, we will formally honor the 8th-grade class in a community ceremony.

Important Information

Half-day Dismissal on Thursday, June 7th

– All Denali students will have a half day on June 7th to allow for 8th graders and families to prepare for promotion. Students should be picked up between 11:45 and 12:30.

Student check-in time:

– 8th graders need to report to graduation by 3:30pm to check in with their mentors and prepare.


Parking at Baylands Park costs $6. Please bring exact change for parking or buy your parking pass before the ceremony from Ms. Osequera at the front desk of Denali

What to bring:

Your student, proud family and friends, and a dessert to share! There is no limit to how many people may attend from each family. – We’ll provide seating and an event photographer to capture the moment when your child walks across the stage, shakes hands and is awarded their diploma.

Student attire:

Boys: White shirt (preferably collared) and long, dark pants. Clothing should not have any large graphics on the front or back.
– Girls: Same guidelines as boys or they can wear a nice dress/skirt similar to what they would wear to a formal school dance. Keep in mind that Baylands Park is a very windy area and you will want to choose your clothing accordingly.

Potluck details:

Please join us for an informal dessert/drink potluck directly after the ceremony. We’re asking 6th and 7th-grade families to bring a dessert to share. 8th-grade families are invited to as well. Drinks and paper utensils will be provided. Sign up to bring a potluck item here:

Baylands Park Info

Baylands Park is considered a nature preserve and has very strict rules for what is allowed in the park. Please take note of the following restrictions. We will be strictly enforcing them. The following are NOT allowed in the park at any time: Pets, Kites, Balloons, Styrofoam

Last Day of School – Thurs, 6/7 (Half Day)

All students will be dismissed at lunchtime on June 7th (please pick up all students between 11:45 and 12:30pm) so that our 8th graders and faculty can prepare for the 8th-grade promotion celebration at Baylands Park at 4pm).

High School Capture the Flag Volunteer Help Needed – Fri, 6/1

The high school students are having their 2nd annual capture the flag event on Friday June 1st after school (4-7pm) at a park near Denali (Lakeside Park) and they need some volunteer help in the following ways:

  • Buying concession items in advance including pizza, watermelon, chips, drinks
  • Buying/delivering ice
  • Lending coolers, food prep items
  • Staffing concession sales table during the event (most items will be priced around $1 or $2)

Volunteers/Potluck Items needed for 8th Grade Promotion on June 7th

We are looking for several volunteers to help with the 8th Grade promotion ceremony on Thursday, June 7th, which is the last day of school and will be held at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale.
We are especially requesting help from 6th and 7th-grade families to help out during the ceremony so that 8th-grade families can relax and enjoy it. Of course, we also encourage younger grades to attend the ceremony or drop by for the reception to congratulate their upperclassmen. 8th-grade families are also encouraged to help with setup and/or cleanup.
The ceremony is Thurs, June 7 from 4-5pm with a dessert/drink potluck directly afterward. The event is expected to end at 7 pm. We need help setting up during lunchtime that day and also during the event. Student helpers are also welcome. Please take a moment to sign up for these important volunteer jobs on the day of the promotion!
