Everyone A Reader
Sunset View’s Everyone A Reader (EAR) program is starting again this year, and we are in need of approximately 20 parent volunteers. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity to become a trained reading tutor in a program designed by the San Diego County Office of Education. You will read one-on-one with four students in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade to improve their reading skills with proven strategies to reach a higher reading level. It is a one-hour weekly reading commitment at a fixed time, followed by about 5-10 minutes of paperwork/record keeping. You will be reading with the same students (teacher selected) each week, building a relationship and helping them improve their reading skills, fluency and confidence.
Please contact Colleen Smiley, email colleenclardy@gmail.com or text 781-364-0074 to volunteer or for more information. There will be a one-hour training session in late September/early October in the library. The EAR program runs from October through May. If you are unable to volunteer on a weekly basis but are still interested in helping with Everyone A Reader, please contact Colleen.
Veteran Sweepers!
Big thanks to Veteran Sweepers for cleaning up both the top and bottom Running Club asphalt tracks! We appreciate you!
At Veteran Sweepers, we believe safety and care go hand in hand with maintaining our community spaces. We’re honored to donate our power sweeping services to Sunset View and sweeping the blacktops so students can start their morning runs on a clean, safe surface. A big thank-you to Coach Brucker for recognizing this need and making sure it was addressed — together, we hope to help every child begin their day with confidence and fewer scraped knees.
Annual Giving is Underway!
Make a Splash and Donate Today
Join us in supporting our community. Every contribution - big or small - helps provide essential programs, resources, and opportunities for our students. Together, we can make waves of impact. A bright pink Annual Giving Campaign information flyer was sent home in your child's folder last Friday.
Here's how you can help:
1. Select "attend" as your RSVP to acknowledge that the Annual Giving campaign is underway. You can do so here: Acknowledge Annual Giving. The goal is for all classes to achieve a 95% acknowledgement rate.
- This acknowledgement does not commit you to donate but rather confirms you know our Annual Giving campaign is occurring. All classes reaching 95% will receive a reward.
- Congrats to classes that have reached 95%:
