SFMTA is conducting a California Street Transit and Safety Project. This includes the area around California Street near Sutro that many of us travel by foot, bike, car or bus every day. The 1 California serves nearly 20,000 riders each day. It connects the Richmond District to the Embarcadero. It is one of Muni’s busiest routes. It is also one of the slowest. The corridor also has a history of serious traffic injuries. This project aims to make improvements that will improve reliability of the bus and improve safety along the 1 California bus route between 33rd Avenue and Steiner Street.

We are beginning with a listening tour this spring. This phase is about hearing from the community and understanding the top priorities for the 1 California and traveling along California Street before any design concepts are developed.

Improvements we may explore include:

• Widening sidewalks at bus stops to give passengers more space
• Adjusting traffic signal timing to give buses a smoother trip
• Adding turn lanes or turn restrictions to reduce traffic congestion and delays
• Moving or combining bus stops to help buses spend less time stopping and starting
• Improving curb management to reduce double parking and better support merchants and deliveries
• Adding safety features for people walking

After the initial round of listening, we’ll return to the community with design concepts.

改善路邊管理，減少雙重停車，同埋更好噉支援商家同送貨
