There are many things that make BNS a special place, and few of them happen by accident.

From the very beginning, our school was founded on the belief that a school with racial, ethnic, and economic diversity would be the best environment for children to engage in active learning. The diverse group of parents and teachers who started BNS wanted a place where families could be actively involved in their child’s education and where the community could come together to build the kind of school that every child deserves.

BNS continues to evolve, but these ideas remain the foundation of our school.

Sadly, the DOE does not provide enough money to fund all of the programs that help make our school so special. So our community works together via our non-profit, Friends of BNS to raise the $280,000 budget that pays for the rest of the magic.

One easy way to contribute is to set up a  monthly recurring donation.  It’s our goal to kick off the year with 150 recurring donation signups to help sustain the programs we pay for. Could one of them be you? Whether it’s $5 or $100 or $500 a month, every contribution counts.

Speaking of coming together as a community, Friends of BNS loves to create opportunities to gather IRL, so we’re hosting a back to school/welcome parents party at Fulton Hall TOMORROW - Friday Sept 27th. We hope you can join us!

If you want to learn more about what exactly the budget covers, mark your calendar for October 11th at 8:20am, when we’ll be reviewing it line by line at the next PTA meeting.

Happy Fall!
