It’s time for our annual City Harvest food drive
Tue, Jan 6 11:37am

Dear BNS Families,

Welcome back!  We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday/vacation!

It’s time for our annual City Harvest food drive and it’s a good thing, because it feels like the need is even greater than usual.  One difference this year is that I now have a 5th grade City Harvest club and we meet every Friday during last period.  The members are Adannaya, Cosmo, Jolie, Layla, and Marcela.  They have been hard at work making posters, writing speeches, and getting ready to give presentations.  They are doing a fantastic job!

Our food drive will go from Thursday, January 8th until Wednesday, January 21st.

We are collecting:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • Only food in sealed packages, so for example, we cannot accept a bag of nuts or beans that were bought in bulk and sealed with a twist-tie.
  • Food that is not expired (even if the expiration date was in the last month, we cannot accept it)
  • Cash (in a sealed, labeled envelope) - the City Harvest club will go to the supermarket to buy food using the money we collect
Please check items before donating because we have to throw away any items that have expired, any cans that are dented or missing labels, and any items that are damaged, dirty or ripped.

Items/money should be given to your child's classroom teacher.  Food donations can also be taken to the staff lounge (next to the music room).

The items that are most needed are:

  • Canned fruit
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fish and meat
  • Canned beans
  • Canned soups
  • Peanut butter (plastic jars)
  • Macaroni and cheese mix
  • Hot cereal
  • Cold cereal
  • Juice packs

Thank you so much for your continued support!

Wishing you a healthy and joyful New Year!

Peace,
Penina, Adannaya, Cosmo, Jolie, Layla, and Marcela
