The 2018 Earth School Read-a-thon Feb 1-28!
Weekly on and Sundays from Feb 4, 2018 to Feb 28, 2018
The Earth School

Greetings, Book Lovers (and the people who love them)!

The 2018 Earth School Read-a-thon has begunWhat chapter are you on? How many books have you read to your child since Thursday? Write them down on their passport before you forget!

I know what you're thinking: "Wait, didn't we *just* do this?" Um, kinda? But June was so packed with events that many families couldn't find time to participate. So we decided to move it to the quieter month of February! So from  February 1-28, your kids will “travel” to new literary destinations and allow their imaginations to run wild, all while raising money to support enrichment programs at The Earth School.  Each child was issued a passport last Thursday to log their literary travels and sponsors.

All this information, extra passports and the PayPal link for sponsors is on the Earth School website. Passports and instructions are also attached below.

How you can help your child:

  • Ask family, friends and neighbors to sponsor your child - $1 per book read or $1 per hour read (for the older, chapter-book-reading kids).  That’s a goal of $10 from each sponsor.  Get ten sponsors committed and that’s $100! Higher donations are, of course, welcome.
  • Take your child to the library, buy a book at the upcoming book fair or encourage them to swap books with friends during the Earth School Book Exchange (more info on the ESBX coming soon!).  Time spent reading to your child counts!
  • Share this info on social media or in an e-mail blast to family and friends! Make a quick video of your child asking for sponsors and have them channel their inner Sally Struthers. Spread the word and support our wonderful enrichment programs!

During the final week of the R-A-T, each child can have his/her passport stamped by Reading Immigration Officers and earn a chance to enter our exciting prize raffle! Fun toys, books, gift certificates and  two Kindles are waiting to be won! If your child wants to read more than 10 books or get more than 10 sponsors -- awesome! Download and print extra passports from the Read-a-thon page of the ES website. For each passport stamped, they receive one raffle ticket. More passports = more chances to win!

Important note: although this is a fundraiser, it is not required that you raise money to have your passport stamped to enter the prize raffle. Any child that reads ten books or for ten hours (or is read to by their grown-ups) can have his/her passport stamped and have a chance to win a prize! The prize raffle is not a competition. Any child who participates in the Read-a-thon and takes the time to log the books can get a chance to win!

Let the reading commence!
