A fellow ICS parent would like to 'bring' Capoeira to ICS, in the form of a new afterschool class.
We appreciate that many kids are already signed up for afterschool this semester.
We'd like to nevertheless to gauge intterest, and find out when people are likely to want to start.
- Classes would run Tuedsay (Hanover) and Wednesday (Willoughby) and would last 1 hour.
- Classes could start as early as the week of 23 September.
- Cost for the remainder of the semester (based on 13 weeks) would be approximately $345 + Sawyer fees if applicable.
Please see below the information provided by Ms Marta Sales (ICS Parent). If you have any specific questoins about Capoeira please email email@example.com
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. Capoeira is a great physical activity for developing youth. It encourages them to explore the joys of being active and interactive. Children who practice Capoeira on a regular basis benefit from improved physical and mental abilities as well. Besides being fun and eye-catching, Capoeira is a very efficient tool in child’s development as it helps develop balance, coordination, general level of fitness and flexibility, sense of rhythm and awareness of your own body. The musical aspect of Capoeira helps kids feel more comfortable and more willing to exercise. Training Capoeira also builds self-esteem and helps the child to develop a sense of identity as an individual and as a member of a nurturing community. Capoeira helps to build personalities through self-expression in a fun, playful and safe way. It also can help to develop the potential of each individual in their learning ability in school and give a positive influence on life in general. Many of these movements have Portuguese names, so this class is also an excellent tool for learning a new language!
Classes will be provided by Wellington “Bohasha” Porto known in the capoeira world as Bohasha.
Bohasha is a Contre-Mestre from Capoeira Luanda has been teaching internationally and nationally since 1992. He is an accomplished Capoeira instructor, dancer and mentor and has extensive experience working with children and adults.
