A Special Event for the Entire Thornhill Community
đź“… Thursday, February 27 | 6:00 - 7:30 PM
đź“Ť Thornhill Elementary, Multi
🍽 Childcare + Light Bites Provided
Hosted by the BIPOC Advisory Council (BAC)—but this is for EVERYONE in our Thornhill community!
Why Should You Come?
Maybe you’ve heard the term microaggressions but aren’t exactly sure what it means. Maybe talking about race feels uncomfortable. Perhaps you don’t know how to talk with your kids about race, that's exactly why this event is for you!
At the heart of it, we all want to raise kids who grow into kind, thoughtful adults. But having conversations about race, identity, and inclusion can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re coming together—to learn, grow, and support one another.
You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to be BIPOC. You just have to be curious and open. This is a unique opportunity—no other OUSD school has an advisory council like Thornhill’s BAC, and we’re leading the way with this important discussion.
What to Expect
Led by the brilliant Dr. Akilah Cadet, this workshop will be engaging, interactive, and empowering. You'll leave with:
âś… A better understanding of microaggressions—what they are, how they show up, and what to do about them.
âś… Strategies for meaningful conversations with kids, friends, and colleagues.
âś… Tools to build a more inclusive community at Thornhill and beyond.
âś… A chance to connect with other parents who are also navigating these topics.
Feeling Hesitant? That’s OK!
If the topic makes you nervous, you're not alone. But real change happens when we’re willing to step into discomfort. Bring a friend, bring an open mind, and let’s figure this out together.
RSVP Today!
We’ve made it even easier to RSVP—just fill out this Google Form to sign up. Already RSVP’d through Konstella? You’re all set!
We need you to show up—because this work, this conversation, and our community can’t move forward without you. Let’s make this event ripple out in a positive, powerful way.
