This year’s 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony will take place on Thornhill's blacktop tomorrow, Wednesday, 5/27 at 9:00 AM. Our kindergarten classes will also be leaving for a field trip tomorrow morning at 8:20 AM. It will be a busy morning!
To help ease parking congestion, we kindly ask 5th grade families to arrive closer to 8:40 AM, when more parking should be available.
Please review the map above and follow the parking guidelines below, and share them with any friends or family members who may also be attending the ceremony. Extra volunteers (look for the yellow safety vests) will also be out and about on Wednesday morning to assist.
Most importantly, please allow a little extra time and be patient so we can all work together to keep everyone safe.
✅ Park here ✅
- Legal (unpainted-curb) parking spaces in front of, and across the street from, school. But as we all know, there are very few of these spaces.
- Gravel spaces in the St. John’s parking lot. There are approximately 15 spaces that the church graciously allows Thornhill families to use; they are the ones just across the bridge.
- Surrounding neighborhood streets. Grisborne Ave. and Gouldin Road both have some legal spaces. (Sorry, Grisborne and Gouldin neighbors, but it’s true!)
- Mountain Blvd. or Moraga Ave. If you park here, plan for some additional time to walk to and from school.
⚠️ Park here at your own risk ⚠️
- White-curb zone in front of school. The white zone is for active loading and unloading only, and tickets are occasionally issued by Oakland parking enforcement.
❌ Do NOT park here ❌
- Anywhere else in the St. John’s lot that is not one of the ~15 gravel spaces by the bridge.
- Red-curb zones in front of school.
- Along Thornhill Drive where it is signed “no parking 8am-4pm on school days.”
- In front of the condo / apartment building driveways, across the street from school.
- Private spaces at 1650 Gouldin (uphill corner of Thornhill and Gouldin).
- Alhambra Lane, Alhambra Court, and Thornhill Court.
🎓 🎓 🎓Congratulations to the class of 2026, and to their families!
From all of us here at the Thornhill Elementary Department of Transportation and Parking Services, we wish you safe travels and good parking karma.
