🚗 Seven morning dropoff dos and don'ts for better living 🚗
Mon, Aug 17 7:05am

Based on a week of observations and reports from the morning dropoff crew -- my personal favorite being that "ill-advised u-turns were plentiful" -- here are several requests that we think will make morning dropoff smoother for everyone. They are mostly don'ts 😔

1. Don't stop short in or before the dropoff line to let your student(s) out by Gate B.
Please wait until you are fully in the dropoff line, wheels parallel to the curb, and have pulled up as far forward as you can, before opening any doors. This keeps the line from backing up, which helps everyone get through faster.

2. Don't block the white curb zone during dropoff time (8:15-8:35am). If you do block the white zone, don't be surprised to find your car surrounded by cones and/or for a parking ticket to be under the wipers when you return. Also: the white zone extends several car lengths west / downhill of Gate B, toward Taps and Takeout.

3. Don't make U-turns on Thornhill.
Turn around at Thornhill and Merriewood if you need to turn back west / downhill, or at the Taps and Takeout parking lot if you need to turn back east / uphill.

4. Don't turn left from the church parking lot or Alhambra Lane (Gate D dropoff) onto Thornhill unless it's totally clear. Rather, turn right and make a U-turn at Merriewood. This keeps the church lot and Alhambra Lane from backing up, and is safer because you don't have to cross a lane of traffic.

5. Don't pull into, in front of, or otherwise block the apartment driveways across the street from school.
We regularly receive complaints about this, and would like to keep good relations with our neighbors.

6. Don't cross Thornhill in the middle of the block -- especially if you have a kid in tow. Please use a crosswalk!

7. If someone else -- like a grandparent, caregiver, friend, etc. -- is doing morning dropoff and they are not on Konstella, please do share these notes with them.

Thanks for reading. Please email me (Peter Russo) at quickdrop@thornhillschool.org if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to volunteer with the dropoff crew.
