Enrichment Classes Update as of Oct. 20

The following is updated information from Ms. Contreras, our PFC Enrichment Coordinator.

Oct. 20: ANTS Tennis session: Oct. 27 - Dec. 17 (most waitlist only)


Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year Thunderbirds!

Due to district requirements, we will not be running any after-school or online enrichment courses through Thornhill. Some of our vendors are still offering virtual courses and welcome you to sign up.


Live Online Drama Club for grades 3-5 (ages 8-11). During each 55-minute class students will be learning acting fundamentals and playing drama games that entertain while teaching social skills, creativity, and self-expression all through the interactive Zoom online platform. Students begin class with theater games and move on to working on skits, monologues, and short scenes. Classes will teach acting fundamentals like projection, articulation, dramatic movement, and improvisation. At the end of the semester, students will present a partially live (on Zoom) performance that will be recorded to share with family and friends. No previous experience is required. Origami Mami: Join the Origami Mami and unfold the secrets of paper-folding! Origami is a fun and unique art form popularized in Japan. Origami engages a multitude of the physical senses including visual, tactile and auditory. It even serves as a conduit for learning basic math and geometry concepts! In class, the students will learn how to fold beginner to low intermediate level Origami models such as animals, plants/flowers, landscapes, geometric shapes and much, much more! Outdoor Distanced Martial Arts and Self-Defense: They're training in Hollis-Doyle Park (Emeryville), socially distant, wearing masks, in pods. The class is Mondays from 3:30-4:30pm starting September 14. More information here.

Berkeley Chess School is offering online classes during the entire fall session with multiple classes and multiple levels per day for your convenience! View the general list here (starts October 1). THORNHILL SPECIFIC CLASS: Thursdays from 3-4pm for grades 1-5, starting on October 1 and running through December 17. Register for the Thornhill class here. Using a combination of Zoom and lichess.org, the instructors first give a lesson, consisting of solving puzzles and learning model games, and afterwards the students play each other in a private online tournament with the instructor supervising and encouraging.

ANTS Sports, one of Thornhill's after school enrichment providers, is offering small group tennis classes at Montclair Park after school on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Classes are grouped by K-2nd and 3rd-5th. They're also offering semi-private neighborhood sports classes on your schedule, location, and desired time frame. Virtual classes are available for martial arts, yoga, and dance. Information on dates & safety protocols for in-person programs are available at www.antssports.com. They also have a virtual program called Zoom Sports Kids Clubs where you can create your own class at the time you want with the kids you want.

3 O'Clock Rock has some great new online group classes this fall including Pioneering Women in Rock n Roll, Synth Wizards, Keepin’ the Beat (Drums), Shred ‘Til Your Dead (Guitar), Bass Slayer (Bass), and more!!! More information at 3oclockrock.com.

Doug's Drama, with Thornhill's drama and storyteller teacher Doug Cole, will be offering online classes throughout the fall semester. He will lead the class with hilarious and enchanting stories and activities guaranteed to delight and captivate your child. Doug tells stories from his childhood, his years as a teacher and parent, as well as myths, legends and original fantasy and fairy tales. Doug incorporates theater games, creative drama, puppetry and music each day as well. Check his website for regular updates on class schedules at www.dougsdrama.com.
