Middle School Parent Panel
Sunday, October 16 from 4-6pm
Are you thinking about where you’re going to enroll your kids for middle school? Maybe the decision is coming quicker than you expected or maybe you’re new to Thornhill but you’d like to plan ahead. Do you generally support the idea of public schools but have concerns about the quality of education in the upper grades? Maybe you see thriving public schools as critical to social justice and public safety in Oakland and you are wondering if any other parents at Thornhill feel the same way? If any of these apply to you, this event is for you!
We’re putting together a panel of Thornhill parents (both former & current) who have agreed to share their experience with sending their kids to local public and charter middle schools in Oakland. Of course there are various school tours that you can sign up to go on but there’s nothing quite like hearing it from a fellow Thornhill parent!
Feel free to join us even if you’re on the fence about whether you want to send your kids to private school or public school. It’ll be a judgment-free zone for people to gather in the spirit of sharing information and making room for questions. It may also be a good opportunity to meet some like-minded parents who you can make plans with to support your kids in their transition to middle school! It’s always easier with a village.
Space is limited (due to room capacity) so please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/tSjvTfBtFKBHopYw7
We will put on a movie for any elementary aged kids in a room across the hall from where we are meeting.
If you have any questions or would like to help with planning the event, please email Becky Lai at beckyclai@gmail.com. FYI, this event is not sponsored by Thornhill/OUSD, it’s a parent led effort!
