Good afternoon Families,

The following information was just sent to us. We hope this will clarify the situation a bit more.

Oct. 9, 2019

Greetings Oakland Unified Community and Staff,

We are working to provide the most up-to-date information about possible school closures due to the PG&E power outage. The full impact of these outages in Oakland is still being determined based on the information that we receive from our schools and from PG&E.  If a school loses power today, it will be closed on Thursday, October 10.

To learn if your student’s school will be closed tomorrow, please visit www.OUSD.org/pgepoweroutage. We will also send robocalls to confirm closures on Thursday. If PG&E extends the shutoff beyond Thursday, we will let you know as early as possible by providing you daily updates. Based on current information, we expect schools to be open on Friday. The power outage will pose communication challenges. We will share official updates via robocall, our website at www.OUSD.org/pgepoweroutage, and social media.

OUSD is a full-service community district that provides important support to our families. We know these PG&E power outages are disrupting these vital supports. Unfortunately, OUSD has no control over these public safety power shutoffs.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work together to meet the needs of our students.

OUSD Communications Team
