Thornhill Annual Fund - Meet our Teaching Assistants!
Fri, Oct 30 11:03am

Hello Thunderbirds!

This week we’re highlighting Thornhill’s amazing Teacher Assistants! Thornhill is incredibly fortunate to have FOUR teaching assistants who offer a vital contribution to every classroom. They provide essential support our classroom teachers, lead small groups, and allow for one-on-one student learning.

Your donation to the Thornhill Annual Fund goes directly to funding this incredible team!

Siobhan Cushing - This is my 6th year at Thornhill Elementary as a Teacher's aide. This year I am working with all three 2nd grade classes. My favorite things about Thornhill are the community feeling you get when you come to Thornhill and the entire staff at Thornhill. The whole staff at Thornhill takes care of the children and knows the different children - whether they are in their classroom, or in the office, or out on the playground. I love working with this age group because they are reading and the children are inquisitive. Every day is different, and the children keep you on your toes. When I'm not working, I am usually out in my garden or walking my dog, Addie. I love to go for coffee with friends or watch a funny show with my family.

Angee Adams - I'm excited to be back here at Thornhill as an instructional assistant. I began working at Thornhill in January as an aide for the kindergarten classrooms. I am now working with first grade classes remotely. I provide assistance in small group instruction as well as reading and game time. I've worked as a classroom aide for elementary schools for over six years. I have lived in Oakland for 43 years.

Tracy Arrowsmith - I just started at Thornhill this week! I will be working with 3rd grade this year. I love 3rd graders for their curiosity, open minds, and loving hearts. My favorite thing about Thornhill is getting to know all the dedicated teachers, enthusiastic learners, wonderful families, and warm staff. I have lived in Oakland for the last 20 years. My daughter, Hazel, is a 6th grader at Edna Brewer Middle School. I have a BA in Psychology from SJSU, as well as a Masters in Education and multiple subject teaching credential from National University. I taught 3rd grade in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I am grateful to become one of the newest members of the Thornhill community!

Lili Ruane - I am so happy to be re-joining the Thornhill family. My time at Thornhill began in 2003 when I attended as a student! I took a break from teaching, but I am back this year working with 4th and 5th grades. I am very excited to be helping this year’s 5th graders as they develop their writing skills. I am honored to get to share my knowledge and passion for writing! I live very close to school (and am neighbors with many students!), graduated from Oakland School for the arts, and Ms. Zettie from the office is my mom! I am so grateful to be a part of the Thornhill community again!

The Thornhill PFC funds incredible resources for our student community, such as PE, Library, Teacher Aides, School Social Worker, Gardening and African Dance. As a Thornhill community, we annually raise $1000 per student to fund these essentials. We are thankful that 26% of our Thornhill families that have participated this year, to raise $97k so far.
