Hi Walnut Acres Families,
We encourage you to attend the Tuesday, May 19th PFC General Meeting next week. At the meeting, we will be reviewing the proposed 2020-21 PFC budget. The 2020-21 budget will look quite different from our budget this year, due to COVID-19.
The impact that the pandemic will have on the realities of the classroom in the new school year is still largely unknown. Our superintendent has indicated that we can expect continued social distancing requirements in the fall, with restrictions as to the size of crowds and the number of students in each classroom and on campus each day. In addition, we do not have an auction fundraising team due in part to concerns about large group restrictions and fears of a potential reduction in corporate donations.
Because of these uncertainties, we are proposing that we commit to a limited number of staff salaries with this budget at this time. These are challenging decisions to make. We have considered the feedback from the parent survey, teacher feedback, and the ability of the staff funded by our budget to work in the case of distance learning, or when group sizes are restricted. As the needs of the classroom become clearer when we return in August, we can reassess as a community and see if we can take on any additional commitments.
Every parent/guardian at Walnut Acres Elementary is automatically a member of the PFC, so we encourage you to attend next week. One member from each family can vote. This final meeting of the year will include three votes - one to approve our budget, one to approve returning PFC Board members, and one to approve incoming PFC Board members.
Attached are three documents in preparation for the meeting on Tuesday:
1) the General PFC Meeting Agenda,
2) the Proposed 2020-21 Budget, and
3) a Summary of Survey Data from the January 2020 PFC Parent Survey and PFC Teacher Survey. The data is from a request to rank staff positions sponsored by the PFC in order of importance to the school. We had 122 parents respond, and 22 teachers. We have also included a recent response from teachers ranking these positions by the needs of each specific grade level.
