Holiday Greetings and #GivingTuesday
Can you believe we are at the end of our first trimester, and running headlong into parent/teacher conferences the busy holiday season? I am so thankful for the generous spirit of our parents who have made some really fabulous things happen at our school this year. Our reading and math specialists are hard at work helping our students gain confidence and improve their skills. Our Co-Lab and Science teachers have been busy leading all of our kids through hand-on experiments and robot-building. And, our chorus and music instructors are teaching the fine arts of performance and music appreciation.
In addition to PFC supported instruction, our parents have also created some incredibly memorable events for the kids. Did your child tell you about the Ninja Obstacle Course that our parents built and then encouraged all the students to try? The course was part of our American Ninja Reader Read-a-thon which is wrapping up this week. I encourage you to continue to support our Walnut Acres students as they impress us with their Ninja Reading skills! The Read-a-thon ends on Thursday, and we have an ambitious goal to raise nearly $30,000. You and your family and friends still have time to donate directly to your student's personal fundraising page by going to 99Pledges. Donations are tax deductible (a form for your tax records will be sent to your email when you donate thru 99Pledges). And, don't forget to submit your donation for a company match from your employer.
In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, I would also like to remind you about the Walnut Acres PFC Jaguar Fund. The Jaguar Fund is the Parent Faculty Club’s primary source of funds to bridge the gap between public funding and the true cost of our children’s education at Walnut Acres. It is the biggest fundraiser at Walnut Acres, bringing in 60% of revenue the PFC uses to pay for things like teachers’ aides, curriculum development, art supplies, science labs, reading specialists, computer instruction and more. 100% of your donations go towards supporting the children of Walnut Acres. Whether you can add to your previous generous donation, give for the first time this school year, or ask the HR department at your company to match your donation, your support will impact our children in many ways. We are well on our way but need your help for us to reach our annual fundraising goal for this important cause. Just go to Jaguar Fund to contribute today!
Also in the Spirit of Giving, each year our parents generously support our December Toy and Clothing Drive. Now is the time to gather your gently used toys and clothing (get the kids involved, too!) to donate to another MDUSD elementary school, Shore Acres in Bay Point. Shore Acres so greatly appreciates our donations which they distribute to their families during an Open House event at their school. We will be collecting clean clothing and toys (with all their pieces and parts) next week: December 4 - 8. If possible, please sort your items and bag or box toys and clothing into separate containers. And please, donate only items that are in clean and working condition. You can drop them off outside the school office beginning Monday morning. If you would like to help deliver the items to Shore Acres on Friday, December 8 after school, please sign up here on Konstella. My kids have helped with this the last 3 years and it really seems to have a huge impact on them. It's a great opportunity to get your kids involved in the spirit of holiday sharing, too.
And, to THANK YOU for all you do for our school, the PFC would love for you to join us at our Annual PFC Holiday Party. Tuesday, December 5 at 7 pm at Elise Lewis' home at 2538 Casa Grande Court. I would really love share an evening out with all of you as it is a rare event that we have a chance to simply relax and enjoy eachother's company. I hope to see you there and get a chance to raise a glass to our many wonderful parents! Sign up here to bring a treat.
Thank you again, to everyone who makes our PFC so successful. I hope the holiday season is full of positive and memorable events for everyone!
