Dear Walnut Acres Families,

As we enter the last week of school for the year 2020, I wish everyone a joyous, healthy, and safe Holiday Season. While this has been a difficult year,  I am constantly reminded, and thankful for, all the good that comes from our Walnut Acres Community. With vaccines on their way, may the New Year bring all of us brighter days filled with student laughter on campus and our lives finally returning to normal.  I appreciate you and for all you do for our students and school.

Proudly and Sincerely,

Principal Lang Luong

Winter Break, December 21- January 4

Please note, the first day back to school is Tuesday, January 5th. There is no school on Monday, January 4th.

School Office Closed during Winter Break

As a school district, our offices and schools continue to be a critical infrastructure for our community. As such, our offices and schools will continue to remain open through December 18, Monday through Friday, 7:30-4:00 pm. The office will be closed during winter break, December 21- January 4th. We will reopen Tuesday, January 5th, 7:30-4:00 pm.

They have worked with individuals, couples, and families for over 40 years providing mental health and wellness supports. Services are provided through Telehealth, a distance-remote process. Please call 510-885-3007 for information. Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am -8:00 pm; Closed Saturday/Sunday.

MDUSD Counseling Newsletter

Our counseling team is pleased to announce the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Counseling Corner Newsletter! The monthly newsletter will share seasonal and relevant tips and resources to support, engage, and connect students and families TK-12. The newsletter and other resources can be found under the Parent Portal tab on the district website.

Classroom Furniture Rearrangements and Reopening Date Changed

The teachers and I have been rearranging the furniture in the classrooms to prepare for the hybrid model even though we will not reopen with live instruction on January 11. We would like to be prepared just in case when we can return to on site learning. As you may have read from Dr. Clark’s December 8 newsletter, due to the rise in Covid cases and many counties being in the purple tier, he will not introduce a hybrid model in January and that reopening plans would be revisited at the board’s regular meeting in January. There will be a School Board Meeting this evening at 6:00pm if you would like to hear the Superintendent’s “Review and Potential Approval of the Recommendation to Delay Potential Reopening of Schools.”

Special Acknowledgements

A special thank you to all families who donated and participated in the Toy and Book Drive, Book Fair, and/or Read-A-Thon.  Your toy and book donations helped put smiles on the faces of students in need at Bayshore Elementary School.  Thank you Susan Edwards, who spearheaded the Toy and Book Drive.

Your generosity also helped us earn over $34,000 from Read-A-Thon and $1,100 (25% of total sales) from the Book Fair.  The money will go toward funding school programs at Walnut Acres.

An appreciation goes out to M’lissa Fleming and Tania Zimelka for leading the Book Fair, and Jessica Streeter and Stacey Henley for coordinating the Read-A-Thon. Thank you for your care, time, and energy to raise money and school spirit.

Finally, a big applause for the PFC Executive Board members, Brooke Giddings, Hillary Bennett, M’lissa Fleming, Victoria Devincenzi, Stacey Henley, Shakeya St. Julien Garcia, and Melanie Mitsch for their volunteerism, leadership, creativity, and dedication.  I truly value our partnership in making Walnut Acres a special place.
