Join us in ditching the car and walking or riding your bike to school on May 4th!The optional meet up spots to walk or bike with other Walnut Acres students will begin at 7:20 with a departure time to school at 7:30. Otherwise you can walk or bike to school with a buddy and/or your family! There will be additional bike parking out on the blacktop.
The meet up spots are:

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and the Walnut Acres Library is preparing for the last days of school! The last week to check-out a book will be May 9 - 13. Please remember to check at home and in backpacks for Walnut Acres Library books that need to be returned. All library books will be due back by Friday, May 20th.The Walnut Acres Art show is back!
2022 WAE Art Show on Tuesday, May 24th from 6-8pm. There will be class displays as well as individual artwork so encourage your kids to start making, painting, drawing, sculpting, and gluing their own unique pieces! More details to come on entry form submissions and guidelines.

Recycle Club Update
home a packet from Recycle Smart which challenges the kids and their families to make small, but meaningful sustainability changes. Help your child(ren) to participate in the "Zero Waste Challenge" at home for the chance for our school to receive a grant from the World Wildlife Fund. Please return the "Earth Warrior Carbon Calculator" page to your student's teacher on Thursday 4/28. Easy challenges include tallying every time someone composts food scraps or refuses "single-use plastics" such as straws or plastic utensils. Go even further with the challenge and make it a fun, family competition between members to see who can tally the most! Also, there are fun challenges to help kids grow an old potato or ends of a green onion into a new plant! 
The Recycle Club is proud to announce we are resuming collection of limited amount of recyclables through Terracycle. Start collecting Garnier hair care product empty containers and all Colgate products container (including difficult to recycle toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes) and bring it with your CRV donations at the beginning of the month. Please follow the helpful tips when bringing them to school with your CRVs:
- All bottles/cans must be clean and dry. Please remove as much of the contents as possible with a used napkin
- No aerosol canisters will be accepted. Please dispose of them properly.
- Please only bring Colgate or Garnier items!
- Separate each company's items from one another (i.e. one bag for Colgate items, one bag for Garnier items)

Walnut Acres Spring Golf Tournament
Please join us for the Spring 2022 Walnut Acres Elementary School PFC 
Golf Outing at Oakhurst Country Club on Monday May 16th, to help raise funds for our kids! We will be able to do a Shotgun start this year starting at 11AM with registration open at 10AM. We will be playing a 4 person Net Scramble with prizes going to the top 3 teams. We will have a few other games as well such as Closest to the Pin and Long Drive. Event is priced at $175 per person or $700 for a Foursome. Price includes Golf, range, and a boxed lunch & beverage during the round.

2nd Grade Parents - May is Your Month to Host Drive-Thru!
2nd Grade Parents: Please help us this month in the Drive Thru line as we open doors and greet students while they are arriving at school. As in previous years, we are having each class level help out at the Drive Thru during specific months. We would appreciate 2-4 helpers each day. Can you help for 20 minutes in the morning, 7:40 - 8:00 am? If so, please sign up!

Lunch Duty volunteers needed
The sign-ups for lunch duty volunteers have been extended through the rest of the school year. We need parents daily to help supervise students during lunch and on the playground to make sure they play safely, as well as assist in cleaning the tables between student lunch shifts. A sign-up for Wednesday shifts was also added on Konstella.*A reminder that to volunteer on campus, you must be fingerprinted, have a current TB test AND be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 with your proof of vaccination on file with the office. TB tests are good for four years. Parents of 4th & 5th graders - it may be time to redo your TB test! The Minute Clinic at CVS Pharmacy on Bancroft Rd. does walk-in TB tests. Drive Thru safety reminders:
- For your safety there is NO pedestrian traffic thru/across the car line
- Pull up to a volunteer for assistance getting your student out of the car
- Do NOT get out of your car
- Have your child ready (goodbyes said, back pack ready) to exit curbside
- Do NOT go around other cars if you are "empty"
- Do NOT park in the drive thru line
