Recycle Club Updates

On November 1st, CRV recycling is coming back to our school - after a 1-year Covid-19 break we will get back into collecting cans + plastic bottles. Please make sure to drop off your sorted (metal in 1 bag / plastic in 1 bag) CRV recyclables and we will turn the refund money into educational books about the environment for our library. Collection will be every 1st full week of the month by the drop off zone.

IDLE FREE BAY AREA:
Idling means leaving a vehicle’s engine running when it is parked or not in use. Use the 30-second Rule: Turn off the car’s engine if you’ll be waiting for more than 30 seconds and help us all breathe easier.

How Idling Affects Your Health:
The pollutants found in exhaust not only affect our environment, they also affect our health. Particulate matter (PM) is the name for tiny particulates, such as soot, dust and dirt found in the air. When inhaled, these small particles travel into the lungs and sometimes into the bloodstream. Inhaling PM can:
- Aggravate asthma
- Cause coughing or difficult breathing
- Decrease lung function
- Exacerbate cardiovascular problems
- Lead to chronic bronchitis

ART WORK CONTEST - we finally found our Jaguar Day art work contest winners! Come check out the art work displayed in the MUR on the board right next to the entrance. The 5 winners will receive a WAE spork pouch with bamboo spork.

Lunch Duty volunteers needed

The sign-ups for lunch duty volunteers have been extended through November. We need parents daily to help supervise students during lunch and on the playground to make sure they play safely, as well as assist in cleaning the tables between student lunch shifts. A sign-up for Wednesday shifts was also added on Konstella.
*A reminder that to volunteer on campus, you must be fingerprinted, have a current TB test AND be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 with your proof of vaccination on file with the office. TB tests are good for four years. Parents of 4th & 5th graders - it may be time to redo your TB test! The Minute Clinic at CVS Pharmacy on Bancroft Rd. does walk-in TB tests. For more information on volunteering check out the MDUSD website.*
