Calicraft Social Night
Join us for a fun night out on Wednesday, 9/14 at 5pm at Calicraft  Brewing Co! Stop by for a quick "hello" or stay all night. You are welcome to bring your kiddos (Califcraft is kid-friendly), or get a sitter and enjoy some adult social time. As always there will be a food truck (Charlie's Tacos is currently scheduled) if you decide to stay for a bite to eat.

MDUSD Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

Each school site is required to have a representative on the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). This advisory group meets with the Superintendent monthly and provides feedback to the District on how we can better support students and families. Please contact Principal Ashton directly if you are interested in this position. The first meeting is Tuesday, September 13th at 5:30pm at the Willow Creek Center.

Fall Carnival - Save the Date!

We hope you will join us as we reintroduce the annual Walnut Acres Fall Carnival on Saturday, October 15th from 3-7pm. Don’t miss the fun with games, food, music, airbrush tattoos, prizes, and more! Discounted $13 Unlimited Games wristbands will be available via Konstella soon. School Site Council (SSC)

We have 3 openings to run for a community member position on our School Site Council! SSC meets monthly on a Thursday from 3-4pm, in person. Schools are required to form SSCs when they receive categorical funding from the state and federal government. SSCs perform an important role at Walnut Acres. They help develop and approve the Single Plan for Student Achievement, set and review school goals and select specific improvements, collaborates with Advisory Groups such as ELAC and PAC, encourages parent, family, and community involvement, and includes all socioeconomic, ethnic, and programmatic groups represented in the school!

  • If you are interested in running for a position on the School Site Council, please fill out this Google Form
  • If you are a member of SSC, our first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 15th at 3pm.

Vocal Music Announcement

Ms. Cryderman is inviting you to view her new general music/choir page, Makeajoyfulsong.xyz. This space will highlight her lessons by grade level, with songs and activities we are participating in each week. We do a lot of fun games, songs, playing percussive instruments, and dances.  Videos of student activities are included. 

    • Makeajoyfulsong.xyz will be restricted to registered school parent viewers only. Please send me a Gmail address to have permission to access.

After School Enrichment

The rest of our Fall enrichment program was released last week featuring Chess, Basketball, Spanish, and Lego classes to name a few. Classes begin the week of September 19th.

English Language Advisory (ELAC) Committee

Is your student multilingual? Does your family have another first language at home? Please join Principal Ashton & Patti Coronado, Community School Coordinator, for our first ELAC Meeting on Friday, September 9th at 8:10am in the MUR . During this meeting we will:

  1. Delegate the ELAC responsibilities to our SSC
  2. Choose an ELAC rep for our SSC meetings
  3. Pick a district ELAC rep
  4. Be trained on what ELAC is

It’s a great way to be involved as a multilingual family. In addition, The first MDUSD DELAC meeting (District English Language Advisory Committee) is scheduled for September 15th. Multilingual families are encouraged to attend this open meeting.

Now Hiring - Instructional Assistance (IA)

Walnut Acres is hiring! Join us as an Instructional Assistant! Your working hours would be 8:00-11:15am M-F and you would be helping the teachers to support the students. Please fill out the below application(s) if you are interested. Email Principal Ashton directly after you have applied. The IA position is general, and not grade level based, the interview team will make the decision on what IA supports which grades during the interview process.

5th Grade Parents- September is Your Month to Host Drive Thru

5th Grade Parents: Please help us in the Drive Thru line as we open doors and greet students while they are arriving at school. As in previous years, we are having each grade level help out at the Drive Thru during specific months. We would appreciate 2-4 helpers each day. Can you help for 20 minutes in the morning, 7:40 - 8:00 am? If so, please sign up!

Here’s what to expect in the coming months in terms of the monthly volunteer schedule:

5th Grade: September & February
4th Grade: October & March
3rd Grade: November & April
2nd Grade: December & May

And all of the Walnut Acres Dads and Grandpas, remember that Fridays are for YOU!  Come help out at Drive-Thru line.  It’s an easy way to get involved in the school community!

Important Message! Please make sure to drive SLOWLY in our Walnut Acres School Zone and please observe all “No Parking” signs.  It’s crucial for the safety of students!

Lunch & Recess Duty sign-ups

 We need parents daily to help supervise students during lunch and on the playground to make sure they play safely, as well as assist in cleaning the tables between student lunch shifts. All volunteers must be cleared by MDUSD to help at lunch. Sign-up HERE

Support the PFC and put a smile on your child's face! For $25.00, the greeting “Happy Birthday ‘Your Child’s Name’” will be on display on the Walnut Acres' electronic Marquee from 7am-9pm on your date of choice. Click HERE to purchase.
Is your child’s birthday during the summer? Consider a “half-birthday” greeting 6 months after their birthday.

The deadline for submitting an order is one week prior to your child's birthday.

Drive Thru Procedures

  • Pull up to a volunteer for assistance getting your student out of the car
  • Do NOT get out of your car 
  • Have your child ready (goodbyes said, backpack ready) to exit curbside
  • Do NOT go around other cars if you are "empty"
  • Do NOT park in the drive thru line
