We Need You! Crucial 2020-21 PFC Volunteer Roles to fill by May 8th

We have a great team of volunteers for our PFC Board for the 2020-21 school year, but we still need YOU! Our volunteer nomination deadline is Friday, May 8th, so that we can vote our board in at the May 12th PFC General Meeting. 

We need leads for two annual fundraiser events that are crucial to the PFC's ability to support vital resources at Walnut Acres Elementary next school year. These events are our Auction and Read-A-Thon. Each year, Auction is expected to raise about 25% of our income, and Read-A-thon 8%. If we don't find leaders for these 2 big fundraisers, our budget and the programs we can fund for next school year will be drastically impacted.

Auction Fundraiser Team

Help run one of the most exciting fundraisers of the year! This year, the auction team raised over $170,000 to directly fund educational programs and staff at Walnut Acres. We need an Auction Lead(s) and team of parents who are dynamic, and willing to be flexible as we see what auction will look like in spring of 2021. If a Gala Event is not an option because of social distancing, we can go virtual. The income goal for this event will be adjusted. Please let us know if you are interested! Read-A-Thon Fundraiser 

We need 1-2 volunteers to run our beloved Read-A-Thon fundraiser! The Read-A-Thon chairs from this year raised over $34,000 to directly fund educational programs and staff at Walnut Acres. You know the joys of a good book, let’s encourage our children to read! We need 1-2 chairs to advertise, coordinate and run the Read-A-Thon in the fall/winter of 2020. It’s two for the price of one…a fundraiser with an academic focus!

PFC Want Ads - Current Open Positions

PFC Executive Committee (2- year commitment)
The 8 members of the PFC Executive Committee lead our organization and oversee our programs, activities and fundraisers. 

VP of Activities - Interested in joining our PFC Executive Committee? This position has high-level oversight of PFC activities and programs, oversees Jaguar Day, our annual kick-off, and sets the PFC Calendar. If you like event planning, this position is for you! 

VP of Community Relations - liaison with the local community, oversee corporate sponsorships, and run our Shop & Earn program. 

 Treasurer - Are you familiar with creating budgets and financial reports? The PFC Treasurer manages the budget, updates financial reports, process disbursements and prepares checks. We have one parent nomination for this position. 

PFC Committee Chairs (2-year commitment recommended)
A 2-year commitment to each chair position is highly encouraged. Auction positions are part of a one-year team.  

Auction Team - Are you interested in being part of the 2020-21 Auction Team? We need parents who are dynamic, and willing to be flexible as we discover what auction will look like next year. If you are interested, please reach out to our PFC President. 

Read-A-Thon Chair(s) - You know the joys of a good book, let’s encourage our children to read! We need 1-2 chairs to advertise, coordinate and run the Read-A-Thon in the fall/winter of 2020. It’s two for the price of one…a fundraiser with an academic focus!

Book Fair Chair(s) - Coordinate an on-site or virtual book fair with Scholastic for Walnut Acres next year. Book fair is a fundraiser, a great way for parents to buy books for their students and their classrooms, and a fun community event. 

Community Service Drives Chair(s) - If your motto is “Give Back”, consider chairing our Community Service Drives. Advertise and run a toy and clothing drive in December, a food drive in March, a book drive in May and a charity bake sale at the end of year Open House festival!

Social Chair(s) - Love to party plan?  Coordinate a Back to School Coffee on the first day of school in the fall,  and a PFC Holiday Party in December. 

School Supply Kits Coordinator - Coordinate with a vendor to provide school supply kits (paper, pencils, binders, etc.) by grade level for purchase by Walnut Acres parents. Kits are shipped direct to student homes. 

New Family Welcome Committee - Help keep new families informed after they register at Walnut Acres and through the summer. Host a new family orientation and a brown bag lunch in August, and welcome new families who register during the school year. 

Walk and Role to School Chair(s) - Do you and your kids walk, scooter or bike to school every day? Do you think it’s important to raise awareness of street safety? Consider chairing our Walk and Role to School days. Typically we host one in the fall and one in the spring. You can coordinate with a program called Street Smarts, and get as creative as you want with advertising and promotion.
