West School’s first Service Learning Project for the year is "TREATS FOR TROOPS." The Town of Hillsborough adopted the US Army 101st Airborne Division currently serving in Afghanistan to “Train, Advise, and Assist.” With Veterans Day and Thanksgiving just a few days away, this is the perfect time to have the students give back and give thanks to those brave men and women serving overseas. Students will be writing letters in class this week and will be asked to bring in donations for care packages to be sent overseas as well as to local veterans. These packages mean so much to the soldiers as they love receiving a “little bit of home” and kindness.
Our West students will give a presentation on Monday about soldiers serving overseas- presently and in the past. The focus was on how our troops support and rebuild towns and schools- rather than on war itself.
We know this is a really busy time of year but we are asking for you and your child to sign-up for an item(s) from their class donation list. Items can be brought in to their classrooms over the next week and a half. All items will be used to fill the care packages that will be sent overseas.
On Friday, November 9, the students will be putting the care packages together. If you and your child are interested in helping after school, please sign up on Konstella as well.
With much gratitude,
