CUSD - Proposed Budget Cuts
Tue, May 19 1:42pm

Dear West Valley Families --

As you may be aware, due to cuts of the state budget, California school districts will be facing budget cuts on the order of 10% for the coming school year. This will put additional strain on our already financially-challenged district. On the agenda for this Thursday’s CUSD Board meeting are several drastic proposals to reduce spending, including increased class sizes, elimination of on-campus librarians and tech specialists, school closures, as well as significant reductions in staff support, coaching and administration.

We expect any of these district actions will place an additional burden on our own WVPTO budget to maintain the programs and level of support our students and staff have had over the last several years. The outcome of the district meeting will shape the discussion of our own budget meeting which has been moved to the following week: Thursday, May 28.

Also on the agenda for the district meeting this week, the CUSD Advisory Team will discuss plans in progress for the fall and three possible scenarios for the 2020-21 school year.

We encourage you all to attend both the CUSD Board Meeting on May 21, as well as the WVPTO meeting on May 28. Please reach out to info@wvpto.org with any questions, comments, or concerns.
