As many of you may already be aware, our CUSD district funding has been an ongoing challenge. Very tough decisions will be made within the next few weeks, including school closures for the 2021-22 school year.

The main topic for tonight’s CUSD Board meeting is "Board Levers and Budgetary Impact"

If you attended last week's meeting, you would have seen that 1 of the 6 budget cut scenarios includes the closure of WV (along with 3 other schools) and the other scenarios result in significant impact to WV due to nearby school closures, admin cuts, etc. While West Valley was named as a school that may close, it is important to know that nearly half of the schools in CUSD were named in at least one of the six scenarios presented to the board by the CAC at the 10/22 board meeting.

Today’s agenda discusses the remaining Board Levers in depth and includes proposals for eliminating site-specific SSITS, librarians, secretaries, shifting to 2/sites per Principal, and several others. The agenda, presentation, and livestream information are posted on the CUSD site.

We encourage everyone to attend the board meetings and stay informed as there are many important topics being discussed.

Upcoming district meetings:

  • Special Board Meeting, October 28, 2020 @ 5:00 p.m.

  • Regular Board Meeting, November 5, 2020 @ 6:00 p.m

  • Special Board Meeting, November 10, 2020 @ 5:00 p.m.

  • Board Advance Meeting, November 19, 2020 @ 8 :00 a.m.

Our teachers, staff, families and students have all worked so hard to build a strong WV community over the past 5 years. This is the time to stay connected and keep our community together.

Sincerely,

Your WVPTO Board
