ACTION: Support the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act
Fri, Jan 30 9:30am

Happy Friday Whittier Community!

Today marks the final day of WSPTA Focus on Advocacy Week, but our work continues. The legislative session is still moving, and lawmakers need to keep hearing from us now more than ever. Let’s stay engaged and keep advocating for our students and schools. Click here for today’s alert and here for all of WSPTA’s active action alerts.

ACTION NEEDED: Support the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act

Schools must be safe and welcoming for all students and families — not places where students or families fear federal immigration enforcement. We are asking legislators to support protecting and preserving public school attendance, student learning, and well-being to make every child’s potential a reality.

Urge Congress to pass the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act (S. 455/H.R. 1061).

What this bill does: Prohibits immigration enforcement by the Department of Homeland Security within 1,000 feet of:

  • Pre-K through grade 12 schools (public and private)
  • Colleges and universities
  • Early care and education programs
  • School bus stops and field trips

PTA's position:

Washington State PTA stands in solidarity with National PTA and Minnesota PTA that schools should be a safe place for all children and families. (Please take a moment to read National PTA’s post linked here as well as WSPTA’s own post.)

At the WSPTA 2025 Legislative Assembly, delegates passed resolution 18.51 Rights and Services for Immigrant Families, Children, and Youth that you can use to guide your advocacy here in Washington state. WSPTA is actively working on guidance for PTA leadership. Stay tuned.
