Happy Tuesday Whittier Community!
During WSPTA Focus on Advocacy Week, an action alert will be sent out each day between January 26-30. We need your voice...it only takes a few minutes. Click here for today's action.
Last session, the legislature passed SB 5814 to expand sales tax to certain services. While intended to fund education, this law is now costing school districts millions they don't have.
Districts must now pay sales tax on:
-
Temporary staffing for therapists, counselors, and nurses who support students
-
Required professional development and teacher training
-
Student activities like concerts, theater, and assemblies
This tax was never intended to apply to public schools. These unexpected costs are pulling money directly from classrooms and student services.
It's time to fix this. Urge your legislators to clarify that SB 5814 does not apply to school districts.
This action takes just a few minutes, and numbers matter! Click here to tell legislators to exempt school districts from the effects of SB 5814.
Thank you for your advocacy,
