Please join us for our last Whittier PTA meeting of the school year! This meeting will feature School Board Director Kathleen Smith who will provide a personal introduction and host a Q&A. If you'd like to submit a question in advance, please use this form!
If you're not sure what School Board Directors do and how they shape your child's education, here's a formal document outlining it and here's the shorthand: The Seattle School Board makes the big decisions that shape your child's school — what gets taught, how money is spent, how many teachers are in buildings, and what the district is trying to achieve for kids. They don't run the day-to-day, but their choices set the conditions your child learns in every single day. Our school board director is supposed to be our voice in all these decisions, but she can't represent us if she doesn't know us. That's why your attendance at this meeting matters!
We'll also be voting on next year's proposed budget and the proposed candidates for next year's Exec Board team, along with our traditional meeting activities.
Meetings are held in-person at the Whittier Library and caregivers have the option to join virtually via Zoom. Meetings start at 7pm and we aim to end by 8:30pm. After meetings, attendees are invited to gather informally at Phinney Station.
