Hello Whittier Community,
During WSPTA Focus on Advocacy Week, an action alert will be sent out each day between January 26-30. We need your voice... it only takes a few minutes. Click here for today's action.
WSPTA recognizes that K-12 education is not fully funded, and an increasing number of school districts are currently in financial crisis. Critical funding gaps persist in basic education related to services for students with disabilities, Materials, Supplies, and Operating Costs (MSOC), and student transportation . These must be addressed to ensure fiscal stability of districts and avoid budget cuts that negatively impact student outcomes.
We are urging members to contact their Washington State Legislators regarding financial stability of all school districts, by prioritizing K-12 education in the state’s operating budget, and by closing existing gaps in basic education funding for MSOC (Materials, Supplies and Operating Costs) by supporting SB 5918/HB 2147 and student transportation by supporting SB 5858, so that state funding reflects and keeps pace with actual costs.
This action only takes a few minutes, and numbers matter! Share this Alert with your networks, tell them why funding MSOC and transportation are important to you and encourage them to contact their legislators via this pre-drafted letter.

Want to up your impact?
Review our one-page policy brief and make this letter even more powerful by adding your own story! Consider including:
- When the basics are not fully funded by the state, district levy dollars must be used. How has this impacted your experience?
- What funding cuts have been implemented (larger class sizes, eliminated programs, reduced support staff) so that your district could afford insurance and utilities?
- Concerns about potential school closures or consolidations?
Thank you for your advocacy,
Kyle Hiatt, Whittier PTA Legislative Rep
