Project Cornerstone and the ABC Program is getting ready to start off our school year!
Fri, Aug 26 2:14pm

We are currently recruiting parent volunteers to be ABC Readers in their classrooms.  As a Classroom Reader, you will be responsible for delivering the ABC curriculum which includes reading a book and also delivering a lesson around the major themes and messages of the book.  Do not worry – the curriculum is all planned out for the parent volunteers.  The ABC Reader program is in English and is offered to both the SEI and TWBI classrooms.

For those new to Project Cornerstone, it is a program that was developed by the YMCA to help use children’s literature to teach students the skills needed to deal with various aspects of children’s social emotional development.  Each ABC book has been chosen for a specific purpose and has been thoroughly researched regarding content, linked to specific asset or asset category, applicability across grade levels, diversity of school populations in the Bay Area, as well as the ease of engaging students in meaningful discussions and activities.

ABC Readers must commit to participating 7 times this year and work with their classroom teachers on scheduling.  Training will be provided.

If you are interested in volunteering for Project Cornerstone as an ABC Reader, please fill out this form stating your interest no later than September 1, 2022.
