A note from Erin Johnson, our Woodcrest PTO Literacy Committee Chair:
To promote equity and make sure ALL students have access to books this summer, our goal is to raise enough money for EVERY one of our 540 students to "shop" a special book fair and choose **up to FOUR FREE books. The PTO Literacy Committee is asking for your help with our Summer Reading initiative! So far we have raised 15% of our $5000 goal, or enough to purchase 4 books for about 80 of our 540 students.
Like schools across the nation, reading scores from 2019 to 2022 have dipped at our elementary school due to pandemic learning loss. Research shows reading as few as four books in summer can prevent learning loss.
Your tax-deductible donation is essentially DOUBLED with a great BOGO deal from Scholastic! A donation of just $15 can provide 4 new, high-interest books for one student. Please share with friends and family. Any donation amount helps put books in the hands of Woodcrest students.
** The amount of FREE books we can give students will be a reflection of the amount we fundraise.
