When your child gets home today ask them what they have enjoyed at school this year. Was it something they did on the google chrome books? Spring Fling? Lucy Calkins curriculum? Math Marketplace? Community Nights? Mother/son event? Daddy/Daughter dance? ....all these events and many more could not have happened without the help and support of the PTO. The PTO is the Parent Teacher Organization. For the 2018-19 school year we are in need of MANY NEW HELPING HANDS. If every parent helped for just one hour next year that would be over 800 volunteer hours - imagine what we could achieve!!!! Please read over the descriptions and consider how you can help. Next week we will send home a paper sign up with your student. THANK YOU!
Many hands make for light work =). Please take a moment and consider how you can be a helping hand.
- COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
Creative and digitally savvy individual who can create flyers for PTO events and activities and think about how to market them. Also attends monthly Board meetings and votes on and considers other things that the PTO does and purchases.
- ANNUAL FUND CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIR (2 OPENINGS)
Coordinate campaign for annual fund, which is when parents simply make donations. Duties include making flyers, determining timing, logging payments and sending out tax receipt emails. Annual Fund campaign typically runs September through early November.
The Recording Secretary compiles meeting minutes for all PTO Board meetings, sends minutes to board members for review, and posts meeting minutes to PTO website. This position updates our PTO Facebook page. This position will work closely with the Communications Director to keep WHE PTO website content updated and relevant.
- BIRTHDAY BOOK NOOK
In partnership with Mr. Miller, keeping our birthday book nook stocked and looking neat. (Birthday Book Nook is when each child gets to pick a free book on his/her birthday!) This position will require year-round monitoring, but should be about twenty minutes at a time, totally on the parent’s own schedule. Great option for a working parent.
Work with Boosterthon team to run Boosterthon. The Boosterthon team does the VAST majority of this work, but this person works with them to determine timing and check-in throughout the program. Helps draft content for ConnectEds and Facebook about Boosterthon and gets student help to decorate around the school. Boosterthon will be in March.
- HOLIDAY CHEER
Holiday Cheer is our holiday gift to non-classroom staff. Duties include making flyer, collecting payments, and disbursing collected money to all non-classroom staff. This is all done in December. This is a great role for a working parent.
- SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Work with a company of your choice to give WHE parents the option to pre-order school supplies. Work with the principal to put together the supply list for each grade level. School supply list is finalized in February/March, flyers go home in May/June, and kits arrive and need to be distributed in August. With the exception of the delivery of the kits to classrooms, this can be done largely via email and is a great option for a working parent wanting to get more involved.
- SPIRIT ROCK PAINTER
Paint the spirit rock on an as-requested basis by the PTO, this was our first year doing this, and it has probably been painted six or seven different times. Rock does need to be painted on evenings or weekends when cars are not in the parking lot, so can be a great option for a working parent.
- SPIRIT WEAR COORDINATOR
Help manage sale and distribution of WHE spirit wear (t-shirts, hoodies, etc.). This will be a new position, with the parent who fills it able to determine timing of spirit wear pushes, if any.
- SPRING FLING FUNDRAISER
