Book Fair- Give an hour or two, during school time

Encourage your kids' love of reading.

Book Fair gives the kids a chance to get excited about reading books that are age appropriate and that their piers are also intersted in, which sparks an even greater interest in literature.

All proceeds goes directly back into the classrooms, enabling teachers to purchase classroom supplies, books, bookshelves, and such that they feel is helpful in their instruction.

Alone, this is a lot of work.  Together, it is maybe a half day of help during the entire year.  Some roles could be asking more.   Traditionally, we have held two book fairs each year.  Dates of the event are to be determined, but if you are part of the committee you can also be part of the decision.

Preview Day Coordinators Signed Up: 1 / 2

Assist with a “preview” day to let teachers take a sneak peek at the books and set ip. It also gives teachers a chance to choose books for their “Classroom Wish List”. Distribute a flyer to the teachers to infrom them of the preview day. Also, bring in premade food(historically sandwiches from Subway) to offer teachers a quick lunch on their way out. All expenses will be reimbursed by the PTA. This is typically done on the Friday before book fair starts.

Classroom Wishlist Coordinator Signed Up: 0 / 1

Help set up the teachers wish list online (or on Konstella) or with the Book Fair app using the forms that the teachers filled out as their wishlist during the preview lunch. Visit the book fair at the end of each day to determine which books were purchased during the day, and update the online count to avoid duplicates. Most of this can be done at night, but you will need to be able to stop by the bookfair to get the updates, or coordinate with someone to get the information.

Cashier and shopping assistant Signed Up: 0 / 15

Agree to work several shifts as cashier at the book fair, which will run for 5 days total. You will use the Scholastic's online credit card processing system(which is easier to use than it sounds) to process customer purchases at the Fair. In the past we have created shifts of 2-4 hours long, mostly going from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. You can also help shoppers look for books, and answer questions about pricing(which will be readily available). If you are a social person, this is actually a fun position, since you’ll get to “hang out” with fellow parents, and interact with the kids as well. It is so great to see them excited about buying books!
