📣 A Note to Our Hammer Community

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to connect as a community following last week’s decision and ahead of upcoming meetings.

First, I want to acknowledge what many of us are feeling. This has been an emotional process, and it’s completely understandable that there are strong reactions, disappointment, and concern. That comes from how deeply people care about Hammer and our kids.

At this point, however, the decision has been made. Hammer will be moving to Gardner, and our focus now needs to shift toward how we move forward together.

🤝 How We Show Up Matters

As we head into upcoming meetings, including public comment opportunities, we want to gently but clearly set a tone for our community:

We need to show up aligned, respectful, and forward-focused.

That means:

  • Speaking thoughtfully and constructively
  • Avoiding language that could be perceived as dismissive or critical of the Gardner community
  • Engaging with our elected leaders in a way that reflects the values we want modeled for our children

It’s important to remember that the individuals making these decisions are also the ones who will continue to:

  • Allocate resources
  • Influence funding (including Measure R improvements)
  • Support our transition

Our ability to advocate effectively for Hammer moving forward will depend in large part on how we engage right now.

🌱 Looking Ahead

Right now, the most impactful thing we can do is:

  • Focus on making this transition as strong and positive as possible for our students
  • Work collaboratively with district leadership
  • Begin building respectful relationships with the Gardner community we are joining

We will absolutely continue to advocate for what Hammer needs — that doesn’t stop here. But we can do that in a way that is strategic, respectful, and ultimately more effective.

💛 A Shared Goal

We all want the same thing:
A thriving, supported, and successful future for Hammer Montessori.

Let’s move forward in a way that:

  • Reflects the strength of this community
  • Supports our students
  • And keeps doors open for the collaboration and support we will need in the months ahead

Thank you all for the care, energy, and commitment you continue to show for our school.

We’re in this together.
