The Future of Hammer
Wed, Feb 4 5:43pm

Hi Hammer family,

As many of you may be aware, SJUSD has released a set of proposed options related to school consolidations, closures, and restructuring as part of its year-long Schools of Tomorrow process.

In the interest of transparency, we want to share our understanding of how the three options could impact Hammer Montessori School and our shared campus with Ernesto Galarza Elementary School:

  • Option 1: Hammer Montessori School would be relocated to Rachel Carson Elementary School (4245 Meg Drive). Galarza would remain open and would receive students from Gardner Elementary School, which is proposed to close.

  • Option 2: Hammer and Galarza would remain at their current location. The campus would absorb additional students from other schools slated for closure.

  • Option 3: Hammer would remain at its current location. Galarza would close, and students would be reassigned to new schools based on revised attendance boundaries.

As we understand it, no decision has been made yet. Earlier today, Mr. Bingham shared a detailed email regarding the Schools of Tomorrow process. To help families stay informed and engaged, we wanted to echo several ways you can learn more and share your feedback:

We know this news may raise concerns and questions. Please know that the HMF is committed to keeping families informed and sharing updates as they become available. We are navigating this process together as a community.

Thank you for staying engaged and supportive of our school.
