Thursday HMF Update
I apologize this is coming out Friday morning. I set it to auto-publish and set the wrong time on it.
Trunk or Treat Committee
Attention all Hammer parents and guardians! Mark your calendars for the annual HMF Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat, happening on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 1 PM to 3 PM. This family-friendly event promises a day of fun for both parents and children, with exciting new activities added this year to make it even more memorable!
We’re looking for volunteers to join the planning committee and help organize this fantastic community event. Explore the available roles below and sign up for as many as your schedule allows.

Please note: To join the committee, you must be cleared through the SJUSD volunteer list.
Girls on the Run – Parent Volunteers Needed
Girls on the Run is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our coaching team! We need 1 or 2 new coaches to help ensure the success of our spring program, which empowers girls in our community to become stronger, more confident, and resilient. I have attached more information on GOT for interested parents.
No running experience is necessary—just a desire to make a positive impact in these girls' lives! The season runs for 10 weeks, from early March to mid-May, with sessions held twice a week after school from 3:15-4:45 PM.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Hammer parent and coach David Friedlander at dfriedlander@alum.vassar.edu.
HMF Monthly Board Meeting
We had a fantastic turnout at our monthly board meeting on Tuesday night! During the meeting, we made important updates to our assemblies and field trips, advanced our plans for upcoming events, finalized this year's budget, and processed reimbursements for teachers' classroom supplies.
As we continue to settle into our new roles with the new board, we encourage all Hammer parents to join us at future meetings. Your participation is always welcome.

Luna Park Chalk Art Festival - Parent Artists Needed
- When: Saturday, September 21
- Time: 10 AM - 5 PM
- Where: Backesto Park, 551 N 13th St, San Jose, CA 95112
San Jose’s Annual Chalk Art Festival is just around the corner, and everyone is welcome to attend! HMS has reserved two sidewalk squares—one for a formal design and another for free doodles by the kids. This off-campus event does not require SJUSD volunteer approval.
Parent Artists Needed: We’re looking for 2 parent volunteers to collaborate on a PEACE-themed design for one of the squares. Volunteers would need to arrive early to sketch out the design, which our students will then help color in.

Hammer Logo Clothing Sales Pre-Orders
Feel that morning chill? It’s almost time to break out those California winter clothes!
Due to last year’s successful pre-order sales and popular demand, we’re offering two HMS apparel designs in hoodies and pullovers, as well as a new long-sleeve "classic" shirt for pre-order this year.
Please note that these items are pre-order only—they are not in stock and will not be delivered immediately. Orders will be placed after the pre-order window closes on Friday, 9/20, with expected delivery to classrooms in mid-October.

Volunteering
We need your help! If you’re thinking about volunteering, now is the time to start. Your TB test is valid for 5 years, so it will cover you until your youngest moves to middle school. Get your TB test or risk assessment done ASAP, so you can submit it and begin the fingerprinting process.
To become a parent volunteer for HMS or school-related events, click HERE to start the process through SJUSD. I’ve done it myself, and it’s a straightforward process that will allow you to be more engaged with the school.
Thank You for Your Support!
We truly appreciate your involvement with the Hammer Montessori Foundation and look forward to a fantastic year ahead.
Warm Regards,
