Thursday HMF Update

Luna Park Chalk Art Festival - Parent Artists Needed 

When: Saturday, September 21st

San Jose’s Annual Chalk Art Festival is in a month, all are welcome to attend! HMS has already reserved two sidewalk squares, one for a formalized design and the second square will be available for all the extra doodles kiddos want to free draw in.  This is NOT an on-campus activity therefore SJUSD volunteer approval is not required. 

Parent Artists Needed

This year we are looking for 2 parent volunteers to collaborate and design one PEACE themed art and draw it out in one of the two squares. These two parent volunteers would have to arrive before the start of the festival to create our HMS PEACE design for students to shade in parts within reach around the edges of our square.

Scholastic Book Fair

It’s that time of year again, time to get Hammer Montessori Students back into the groove of reading! 

The Scholastic Book Fair starts Monday, 8/26, the week before the Annual Hammer Montessori School Read a Thon! The book fair will hopefully get HMS ready and excited for three weeks of fun focused reading!

Back to School Night

Please mark your calendar for August 27th, 2024, which is Back to School Night! This is a valuable opportunity to meet your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and learn about their classroom plans for the year.

To accommodate families with multiple children, there will be two sessions available. Please note that children are not permitted to attend this event, and childcare will not be provided. We encourage you to arrange for childcare in advance so you can make the most of this informative evening.

Hammer Logo Clothing Sales

We’ve heard through the grapevine that you’re wondering when your orders will arrive, so here’s a quick update:

• Order today (Thursday):Your order will be delivered to your youngest child’s class tomorrow (Friday).
• Order tomorrow (Friday) or Monday-Thursday next week:Your order will be sent home next Friday.
• Teachers will ensure your order makes it into your child’s backpack.
• New item alert! Add a keychain to your apparel order for just $1.
• Looking for a zip-up jacket or hoodie but can’t find your size? Pre-orders for these items will begin towards the end of September.
• What does this mean? You’ll pay for items ahead of time, and after the pre-orders close, we’ll place the order with our local screen print shop. Expect delivery approximately 4-6 weeks after the pre-order, likely arriving early to mid-November, considering the Fall break.

Volunteering

We need your help! If you’re considering volunteering, start the process now. Your TB test is valid for 5 years, so if you have younger students, it will cover you until they move to middle school. Get your TB test or risk assessment done right away so you can submit it to start the fingerprinting process. To become a parent volunteer for HMF or school-related events, click HERE to start the process through SJUSD. I’ve done it myself, and it’s a manageable process that allows you to be more engaged with the school.
