🚗 Volunteers needed for next weekend's parking fundraiser 🚗

Our Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Parking Fundraiser is coming up next weekend and we need volunteers. 
 
How many volunteers do we need? 
A lot! Shifts are two hours each and we need a minimum of 2 volunteers per slot.  If you know of any high schoolers that have any volunteer obligations - this is a slam dunk to knock out those hours.
 
Where is this?
This year we have TWO parking locations: Lafayette's yard (Fri, Sat & Sun) and 750 25th Avenue (Sat & Sun).

🏃🏻‍♀️ Donut Dash Results Are In! 🏃🏾

Thank you to everyone who came out today for our Donut Dash! Whether you were a runner, volunteer, cheerleader, or all of the above, you helped make this year's fun run a HUGE success. 

A special congratulations to our race winners! While we're highlighting the accomplishments of our student runners below, you can view the full list of 5K race times here. We had a record turnout with 412 registered runners! Please note that the 1-Mile Race is not officially timed, so no official race times are available for that event. 🎉

🧹 Friday is National Custodian Appreciation Day 🧼

A day to celebrate the people that keep our school clean and safe for our students and staff! 

Students are encouraged to show appreciation by:

• Making homemade/handwritten cards
• Creating classroom posters or decorating their class door
• Bringing a yummy treat/snack or small gift card

In general, remembering to say "thank you" to our incredible custodian team, as well as picking up after ourselves, paying extra attention to sorting and properly disposing of recyclables, landfill & compost, and ensuring our spaces are left clean after we use them, are great ways to show the custodial team our gratitude and respect!

This event is a great way for young people to learn about road safety and join the Lafayette community on their morning commute! 

Join Lafayette staff at 7:30 AM on Wednesday October 7th at the following cross streets:

• Meet Ms. Carpenter at 30th and Balboa
• Meet Ms. Brook at 36th and Fulton
• Meet Mr. E at 40th and Anza

Ms. Jessica will be at the yard entry gates with giveaways for students who participate!

I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful weekend! A huge shout-out to everyone who joined us for Wednesday’s Multicultural Night Market 🐬, and today’s Donut Dash! 🍩 Lafayette is such a special community, and it’s always a treat to see so many students, families, and staff come together for some fun!

We have lots to share in this week, including important reminders about morning drop-off safety and SFUSD’s cell phone policy, information about Wednesday’s ELAC/SSC meeting, an opportunity to share your voice about SFUSD’s school assignment process, and, of course, some wonderful Bright Spots celebrating our community.

Please take a few minutes to look through this week’s updates and stay connected to all that’s happening at Lafayette.

📱 A Reminder About Class Group Chats

Class group chats, including WhatsApp groups, help families connect and coordinate classwide events and activities. Please keep these spaces focused on that purpose. Messages promoting political or social positions may not reflect the views of SFUSD, Lafayette staff, the PTA, or the broader school community, and can make these shared spaces less welcoming for others. We also ask families to be mindful when discussing concerns in class chats. These conversations can unintentionally put school staff in the middle of parent concerns and district requirements, creating tension within our community. Please bring concerns directly to the appropriate school or district contact. If you have a school concern, please reach out to the administration; for PTA matters, contact the PTA directly. We also encourage organizing via private channels and bringing issues directly to district leadership. Thank you for helping keep class chats useful and welcoming for all families.

🚗 Student Safety Comes First: Morning Drop-Off

Student safety is our top priority during morning arrival. With hundreds of students and families arriving within a short window, we need everyone to follow our drop-off procedures consistently. Even a quick shortcut can create an unsafe situation for students, families, staff, and our neighbors.

All families dropping students off by car should use Stop, Drop, & Go on Anza Street. This is the safest and most efficient way to keep traffic moving while helping students enter campus safely.

Please help us by following these important expectations:

• Do not drop students off on the opposite side of the street. Students should never have to cross through moving traffic to reach school.

• Do not make U-turns near the family entrance on 36th Avenue. U-turns create unpredictable and unsafe traffic patterns in an area where many children and families are walking and biking.

• Do not double park. Double parking creates unsafe congestion, blocks visibility, and impacts our neighbors and other drivers.

• Keep the white bus zone clear. This space must remain available for school buses for safe curbside drop-off.

• Use Stop, Drop, & Go—even when you’re in a hurry! A few extra moments can make a significant difference in keeping everyone safe.

We know mornings can be busy, but convenience should never come at the expense of student safety. Please plan ahead, follow traffic expectations, and help us create a predictable and safe arrival for every Lafayette student.

🐬 Volunteer Tour Guides Needed! 

We’re looking for volunteers to help welcome prospective families and share what makes Lafayette special!

School tours will begin with a welcome and Q&A led by our Admin Team, PTA Executive Reps, and New Family Committee. Guests will then break into small groups for guided campus tours.

Volunteer Tour Guides will:

• Lead families along a predetermined tour route.

• Visit designated classrooms and campus landmarks.

• Share your Lafayette experience and answer basic questions.

We’ll provide the route and key information—you bring your Lafayette spirit!

We’re also looking for volunteers to represent Lafayette at the upcoming SFUSD Enrollment Fair, where you can connect with prospective families, share your experience, and help answer questions about our school.

📱 Cell Phones & Smartwatches: OFF and AWAY

Please help us maintain a focused, safe, and distraction-free environment by reviewing Lafayette’s expectations and SFUSD’s Mobile Device Policy with your student(s). Phones and other devices should remain at home when possible. If they must be brought to school, please review the following expectations;

• Student cell phones, smartwatches, and other personal devices must be OFF and AWAY during the school day.

• This expectation applies throughout the entire campus, including before and after school while students are participating in aftercare, school events, or other activities.

• Students who wear smartwatches should keep them turned off and put away, or in School Mode so they cannot send or receive messages, other notifications, play games, or engage in other distractions.

• If you need to communicate with your student (or visa versa), you should do so through the office 415-750-8483.

We appreciate families reinforcing these expectations at home. Keeping personal devices off and away helps students stay focused on learning, friendships, play, and being present with our school community. 

🤝 ELAC & SSC Meeting – September 30

📣 SFUSD Enrollment Survey – Share Your Voice!

SFUSD is gathering community input on how students should be assigned to elementary schools beginning in August 2028. No plan has been selected yet, and family feedback will help inform the district’s decision-making.

The survey is open to all San Francisco families, including those with children in SFUSD, private or charter schools, as well as families with children who are not yet school-aged.

Please take a few minutes to share your perspective and help shape the future of elementary school enrollment in SFUSD!

Bright Spots

Shout Out to our Custodial Team

Next Friday, October 2nd, is National Custodians Day, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible behind-the-scenes work of our custodial team: Frankie (Pictured), Michelle (Pictured), and Yan (on leave)! Christy, our former daytime custodian, has moved as of last week, but we appreciate her work too!

So much of what they do happens before we arrive, after we leave, and quietly throughout the day. Their hard work keeps Lafayette clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for our students and staff each day. Their work is essential to everything we do, and we are incredibly grateful for them!

A special shout-out also goes to our new custodial supervisor, David, who is always responsive and willing to step up when we need support. Whether he’s finding us subs or rolling up his sleeves and doing the work himself, David consistently helps make sure Lafayette is taken care of.

Next Friday, please take a moment to thank our custodial team and let them know how much we appreciate all they do for our school community!

Picture Day

We had a couple wonderful Picture Days this week! There’s something special about capturing a moment in time during these elementary school years, from missing teeth and growing smiles to friendships and personalities that continue to blossom.

A big thank you to our teachers and staff for helping students get where they needed to be and keeping the day running smoothly, and to our students for bringing their best smiles!

We know these photos become treasured keepsakes for many families, and we’re happy to help capture another year of Lafayette memories. 

Multicultural Night Market

A huge thank you to everyone who made our Multicultural Night Market such an amazing celebration! More than 500 students, families, staff and community members came together for an evening filled with food, culture, and community on a beautiful Wednesday night.

We are incredibly grateful to all of the volunteers who donated food, time, and labor to make the evening possible. A special shoutout to parents and event planner extraordinaires, Jessica Eting and Le Klein, for the tremendous time, energy, and care they put into organizing such a fun and memorable event for our Lafayette community. 🐬❤️

RNC Parent Workshop

RNC’s Parent Workshop on self-care was a wonderful opportunity for parents and caregivers to connect. Families shared the stresses they’re navigating, practiced a grounding activity together, and exchanged strategies for caring for themselves. The conversation flowed so naturally that it continued until 7 p.m., and participants have already said they’re looking forward to future sessions!

We can’t forget about this week’s Splash Awards winners! These 3rd, 4th & 5th graders were honored for their contributions to our community this week, ranging from taking initiative, showing integrity, being excellent role models in the classroom, to great friends and community helpers, we appreciate all their efforts to make Lafayette the most amazing place to learn and grow.

📝 Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF)

We are working toward 100% completion and need every family’s help (We’re only at 53.5% 😢)! Please complete your MFIF if you haven’t already. More information and instructions are included below.

What is the MFIF, and why is it important?

The Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) is a quick annual form that helps Lafayette and community partners access important funding and benefits for students.

Completing the MFIF helps:

• Determine school funding for academic programs and services.

• Prioritize eligible students for afterschool programs.

• Connect eligible families with benefits like $120 SunBucks (Summer EBT), internet access, and more. See the Family Benefits Guide for details.

Every form counts! Please help us reach 100% completion!

Before & After School

• In the morning, use Stop, Drop, and Go on Anza Street for a safe and efficient morning drop-off. Please do not park or drop-off in the white bus zone, double park, or allow students to exit on the opposite side of the street. This is for the safety of your students!

• Sign Up for Stop, Drop, & Go!

• Bikes and scooters should be walked on the school yard. This is for the safety of our students. 

• Enrichment Pick-Up Reminder:

• Please meet your student on time at the northeast gate on 36th Avenue, near the bike racks.

• The play structure is reserved for YMCA and RNC programs after school. For the safety and security of students in aftercare, families not enrolled in these programs should use alternate play areas after dismissal. Cabrillo Playground, just down the street, is a great option. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
