We are looking for volunteers to work in the South School library with our wonderful librarian Mrs. James.

There are 2 library opportunities that will occur throughout the year:

* Book borrowing - Volunteers will shelve books and help students check books in and out. Volunteers who are new to the role must be trained in the library computer system prior to their first shift.

* Library skills - volunteers will help with research/art projects and will prep materials.

The deadline to sign up for interest in a library shift is this Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. This sign-up is to show interest in being a library volunteer; we will be contacting volunteers directly to let you know the dates of your exact shifts next week. (We have indicated roughly the number of volunteers that we should need, but we will likely be able to alter the schedule based on interest, so if four people have already signed up, please go ahead and sign up too!)

This volunteer role is a fixed commitment. Volunteers get a shift (for example the first Monday of each month) and you'll be expected to be there. If something comes up, you are required find a replacement. All shifts will be filled at the beginning of the school year; you can't drop in and out of library volunteering.

Mrs. James will be holding two library volunteer kickoff meetings, on TUESDAY, SEPT 10, one at 8:30 a.m. and one at 2:30 p.m. These will include a library tour, a computer tutorial, and Mrs. James will go over the available library jobs—which include borrowing and skills, but there are others too. If you are not free Tuesday don't panic, but please reach out so we can make sure you're up to speed with the library.

Throughout the year, there will be many opportunities to volunteer at other times for your student's class, so if these times don't work for you, or if you'd prefer a one-time commitment, there is lots to do.
